My library just grew again 2017

I should have mentioned this on Monday, I blame my ruddy cold. 

I traded some vacforms with Steel Pengion for a pristine copy of 'Locomotives that never were' by Robin Barnes. It's a sort railway Whiffer's bible of locos that should have been built, but weren't.

I bought a copy of this years ago, but leant it to someone and I can't remember who it was, but now I've got another one. 

One or two of the book's subjects may appear on a Whiff SIG stand near you in the coming years. I've already got ideas for one of them......

That would be quite a practical build with the aid of a Kitmaster Garrett kit, and I just happen to have one them. 

My first target would be the Southern 'Merchant Navy' tank engine though, it should be pretty straightforward. [Famous last words I suspect....]

For whatever reason, there are a few copies quite cheap in Australia  but from what I read, it concerns only british locos, not US or continental ones. Is that right?

Yes, it's only UK locos that never were of the 20th century, but still fascinating to ANY ferroequinologist

At one point in the book the author mentions the possibility of a second book, but I don't think it ever happened sadly.

I've searched diligently through both the interweb and all of  my contacts from 16 years of wholesale bookselling.  There is, most regrettably, no trace of a second volume.............but I'm sure that this community could do something similar for multiple modes of transport.

Oh yes, I LOVE that T-1 Garret, and it's pretty buildable too, so long as you can afford two T-1s! 

But the NYC 'Century' 4-8-4 is even more buildable if you have a Kitmaster NYC Hudson to hand, and I have...........

Picked up another 3rd Edition copy of "project Cancelled" by Derek Wood, I have the 2nd Edition which is what got me hooked on the Project Cancelled concept in the 80s when I found a copy in the local library. I passed over my original 3rd Edition to one of the lads a number of years ago but now I have a bookcase in the workroom for ready references I felt I needed another copy to be at hand when building.

Yes I know some of the subject matter has been superseded and some of the commentary is no longer accurate and possibly a little biased but its still the first book that got me hooked and it also covers most of the post war era subject areas.

Sigh For A Merlin - The testing of the Spitfire by Alex Henshaw who was the main test pilot for Supermarine. He flew 10% of all Spitfires ever built and barrel rolled a Lancaster!
Picked this up in an Ironbridge charity shop for a very reasonable price.

I received my copy of RAF Secret Jets of Cold War Britain today. I had ordered it pre Telford where I could have easily picked up a copy but as I also bought four other books during my trip it will be a while before I get around to more than flicking through the pages.

Mine arrived today too, I had a quick scan through it and tried not to read too much of it as I want to save it for when I go in hospital. There are some very nice articles in there for sure, not something that interests me usually, but I think it will keep me quiet for a couple of days at least

Got my copy yesterday. Been skimming through it during the night shift. Reminds me of several books that I have read with the best bits taken out and thoroughly researched. The concept artwork is good with plenty of line drawings.
Plenty of whiffs to be built, although best to check with Unicraft first to see if any are in their model catalogue.
