I received today the new Airfix 1/72 scale Shackleton AEW2 Kit.

Other than the decals and instruction sheet being different, there is a change of one sprue/tree. In the MR2 kit there is sprue/tree 'H' while in the AEW kit there is sprue/tree 'I'. Weapons and full length bomb bay doors are on sprue 'H' while the radome and shorter doors are on sprue 'I'. The plastic is also a darker grey as well, closer to the colour scheme of the real aircraft for those too lazy to paint their model.

The plastic is different from the more usual blue grey as it's produced in the UK.  Whether it's less prone to warpage is another question.

And finally my parcel from Sydney has arrived...

...and two of the kits are the wrong release and will be heading back North (at their cost) to be exchanged for the ones shown on the website that I ordered.
However, i'm pleased with the rest.

Gazelle might get turned into Blue Thunder.  Skyraider might become a Skycab or Air Ambulance.  Frogfoot has no weapons whatsoever, very faint raised detail and shallow undetailed undercarriage bays (which seems to be a Hobbycraft trait).  Lightning might get merged with a Harrier.

if you just want any old Lightning to chop up, then might I suggest getting a less rare one than that Airfix F.1A, and putting the latter back on ebay as 'collectable' at a 'collectable' price? The old F.1A is hard to come by because Airfix re-cut the mould to make a later version, so they're in limited supply.

Really?
Cost me $10.
Result!
I was surprised how small the box is.

There are several of that boxing on UK Ebay going for £17-£18 Buy-it-now at the moment. Couple of others on auctions but none are near enough to their end date to judge what they'll go for.

Similar box but with a red stripe on it? £30

Same kit in a never-opened bag+header? £75  :o

A Trumpeter 1:72 Japanese Type 74 tank as conversion fodder. I found that it looks quite similar to the US Army T95 prototype, so maybe...

Those are collector prices.  This has writing on the box lid, all the parts have been desprued and the air brakes have been glued in place (badly) and so it wouldn't fetch top rate.  Its a builders kit.
It's the first kit my father built me when I was a kid.

Okay well that probably explains why you got it for that price. You're right: it's a builder.
