You could try using a B-17G  cockpit on top of the front of the fuselage. It does work as I used it on a B-29 AEW build.

Just won the Airfix Avro Shackleton on eBay for less than £30.
I'll use this to build a Shackletrian (transporter version of the Shackleton) with the windows from the Mach2 York.

That... actually makes perfect sense. Plus it would have been a much better subhunting platform than looted I-153's and SB-2's in OTL.
