It begs the question, how would judges at a show react if one built one up with all the chrome parts custom decals and entered it in the OOB class?

If the judges follow the rules correctly, and they should otherwise what's the point of the judging standards,
it wouldn't be an issue because all the bits are in the box, how it's painted and blinged-up is irrelevant.

I can tell you for sure that at the IPMS-Seattle show it wouldn't be an issue.

Hmmm, yes.  I hope it wouldn't be an issue at Australian Model Expo.
Judging by previously reported behaviour I suspect it would be other entrants who would kick up a fuss.

There are firms that do simulated dogfighting flights using various gun simulation systems and smoke pots.
Something similar could be used, so you're not actually killing people, destroying aircraft, and whatever may
be below.

Sort of an SCA melee round in the sky.

Fantastic

I did go up in a Stearman at Wheeler Field in Hawaii years ago and the pilot made a couple of "straffing runs" down the runway and over the hangers, and yes I did go "akka, akka, akka" ; the pilot latter told me that 99% of male passengers do it so I didn't feel to childish  ;)
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

At the Avon Show today :

A Hasegawa F-8 from darthspud, thanks VERY much.

And a Revell 1/144 A380 from my good friend Dave Slater. I'd lent him a 380 kit years ago as he needed one in a hurry, and he's just replaced it. He and I have 'plans' for it, and OGL suggested a demon colour scheme which involves lots of orange paint.  ;D

And better, NEITHER of them cost me a bean.

Won on eBay ready built 1/72 B-29. I'll have to wait and see what parts get broken in transit before whiffing.

Two ev!lbay wins of the weekend: An 1:72 Revell A-4E/F (reboxed Italeri kit) for just EUR 2,10,- and a Hobby Boss Brewster Buffalo for EUR 3,95,-.

Placed a couple of Hannants's orders over the weekend, I spotted a model art decal set in the 2nd hand section with decals for the RN Westland Dragonfly, the new Suez decal set from Xtradecal and then realised I didn't have a Dragonfly so has to do a 2nd order for a mach2 Dragonfly  :banghead:

Oh dear, all that Perspex, and you know how well Mach 2 do their transparencies!

Don't Whirlybirds do one with a clear fuselage?

The Wooksta!

Possibly - if they do, it'll be ex-Airways (Maintrack)

Yes Whirlykit's reissued the Maintrack one with updated parts but I noticed that Roger's wife recently passed away so not sure if they are back up and running again. They were talking about replacing the clear vacform with clear resin, but I don't think they have done that as yet.

Pity the Aerodrom injection moulded kit has disappeared as that would be a handy starting point.

After reading your bit about the Dragonfly, I found I have two clear vacform ones, one done by a firm called Britavia, or Tee-Jay Models depending which side of the instruction sheet you read, and one by 'FiCraft Models. However, they both look VERY 'Maintrack' in their presentation, and the Britavia one says their next product will be a Sycamore, and I have one of them too, and it does say it's by Maintrack. Curioser and curioser.

All three of them have gone somewhat yellow and I wonder if letting the Sun get at them will work, like it does with old decal sheets.

I ought to build them as a Sycamore was the first helicopter I ever sat in, at age 11, and the Dragonfly was the first one I ever flew in when I was 17. I even have a pic of that one.

I'd like to know, too. I have a VL Myrsky II and the vac canopy in it is NICE AND YELLOW. If it were intentional for a modern fighter like the ones with the yellow glass it might make sense but not for this old thing!

The Wooksta!

No, sun bleaching won't work because it's UV damage that causes the yellowing in the plastic in the first place.

I don't know how the UV got there then, as all three kits have been in their packets, surrounded by the instructions, and the packets were inside a box and that's been in my Loft for umpteen years, with only two, rather small windows......
