I've already got 2 of Dragon's previous T28 Super Heavy Tank kit from a few years ago. But I wouldn't mind getting the newer version with the 155mm gun. ;) The two T28's that I already have are going to be kitbashed with a 1/144 scale Dora railway gun in order to create the German Landkreuzer P1500 Monster that I want to build.

Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Woah ! That's really something ! I love the idea of modding the others with the 144th scale gun

I hope Dragon plans on doing more WoT-related armor.  I'd *love* to see them release the T29 Heavy Tank.

No Point, HobbyBoss and Takom are both doing the T-29, the T-30 and the T-32, and I think both T-29's are due this qtr

...and yet I've read countless books about how insane Hitler was with his obsessions for super-heavy tanks. Am I missing something?

The fact that Germany didn't have the capacity to build them, especially not in numbers significant enough to make a difference.

Plus, at the time he was obsessing over these things, Germany was losing tanks faster than it could build them.

He would have been better off getting the engineers to work out the flaws in the tanks he did have & fix them. The Panther & Tiger tanks were superb AFV's, which would have been considerably better if they'd been more reliable & durable.

************************************************************

Not that I wish he had focussed on the more acheivable goals, quite the opposite, but, when you go looking for why Nazi Germany had this sudden & accelerating reversal of fortunes, you look at what Hitler was doing & at what Germany had the capacity to do. Then you think, if Hitler had done this & that instead of the other he may, actually, have won, or at least dragged the war out for several more years or to a bloody stalemate. That doesn't mean he could have, let-alone would have, given his mindset.

************************************************************

The Soviet, American & British focus on Super Heavy Tanks came about because of the shock of meeting the heavy panzers & the losses that incurred. The Soviets were less interested because they'd developed a good range of tanks from the T-34/85 up to the IS-2 during the war, which were very capable standard tank designs against anything the Germans had. The British were concerned enough to have a good bash at developing their own SHT but they'd already developed an extremely capable tank in the Centurion & soon realised this. The Americans had more money to throw at SHT's as an empirical experiment but even they soon turned to evolving the M-46 design. Eventually technology caught up & the MBT was born, having almost as much armour protection as the SHT's, easily as much fire-power, were faster & more manoeuvrable, &, with their turreted designs, were much more versatile & capable that SHT's.

Many thanks. I did read a fantastic book once about the whole armaments output being insane from a wartime point of view...multiple types of aircraft, calibres of gun etc etc. Very heavy tanks are still somewhat limited by transportation capabilities and basic obstructions such as weak bridges etc are they not?

The "Doom Turtle!"  Gotta love it!  That thing wasn't really intended to go after other tanks.  It was too slow for that.  Instead, it was designed to trundle up to enemy fortifications and blast 'em apart.  As those fortifications weren't going anywhere, the "speed" of the Doom Turtle really wasn't an issue.  It was stupidly massively armored so whatever those fortifications were shooting at it would be bouncing right off.

Glad to see it in kit form.

Now, on to the 1/72 version!

So does this World of Tanks game factor in reliability and maintenance requirements or do the tanks just roam about shooting at each other without ever breaking down or wearing out?

Until they get hit or blown up.  'Tis not an accurate "real life" simulator.

Because it's so slow, and has only a 270 rotation for the turret, my usual tactic with the mythical T28 Prototype (A turreted Doom Turtle) is to trundle up behind cover and concealment and play sniper.  Like in this brief fight

Yup, that's why some have snorkels, it's either that or pontoon them over rivers.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
