Have now added the flight deck and built up the hanger deck so making progress, next up is revising the mast layout and working out the correct sensors for the revised weapon systems and ECM hardware. Just adding some greeblies on the new structures to busy them up a bit.
Have the 100mm gun fwd, the SAN-9 launcher in place of the SAN-4, the SSN-25 Harpoonski will go fwd of the bridge and a Cross Sword director for the SAN-9 will go atop the bridge along with Kite Screech for the gun. The Kashtans will be on the platforms abreast the hanger and their director dome will be atop the hanger. ASW mortars will be swapped from the RBU-6000 to the RBU-1000 and relocated.

Parts come from the Krivak kit, a spar Pitroad Soviet Equipment sprue and from the Trumpeter Kirov kit which includes items on some of its sprue's for the later Kallalin and Peter the great kits which gives me the Kashtan bits and the Cross Swords director.

Its got me back into my Russian Warships, whilst looking at the parts of a Sovremmeny class Destroyer for ideas I decided to start building it last night whilst the Krivak cured

I don't understand one bit of what you're doing, but it looks extremely good.  ;D

He's put the boxy bits that hold the shooty bits on the side of the sheddy bit that holds the whirry bit. The controlly bits for the whooshy bits and bangy bits that attack flying things are going on top of the steery bit, while the whooshy bits that attack floaty things are going just in front. He's moving the whooshy things that attack swimmy things, but he's not said where yet.

Hope that helps...  ;)

Well the Krivak I/II was the standard Soviet ASW frigate but differed by the II have an uprated Gun turrets from 76mm to 100mm. The Krivak III was a Patrol Frigate intended for the KGB so lost its ASW missile fwd and had them replaced by a 100mm gun and a Hanger and helicopter deck at the stern for a Ka-27 Helix.

What I am doing is a what-if speculating that the Russian Navy improved the Krivak III to a Krivak IV with improved weapons and Anti-ship missiles as a match to NATO frigates as a more general purpose warship. The Russians actually built a new larger frigate called the Nestreshiminy class but I shall be having the Krivak IV as a step towards the Neustrashimy and would carry on being built in the other shipyards whilst the new class were developed.

Its OK the shippies know what i'm doing, that's why Proditor was asking about how to make an actual Krivak III.

Oh well, why didn't you say that in the first place? NOW I understand it perfectly.  ;D ;)

Building like a Russian shipyard at the moment, managed to get close to start painting and get struck down by a cold for a week. Starting to feel a bit more human today but far from ready to sit at the workbench, and certainly not ready to attempt spraying till at least the weekend.

I do however have my Alternative book to act as inspiration so may do a genuine project if I get this finished first as there are some interesting alternative versions to the Slava class missile cruiser.

Finally finished painting the Frigate and as per usual the photos highlight the bits you missed with the naked eye

The last photo shows it next to the new Russian Buyan M Corvette that's 3D printed from Shapeways by Dutch Fleet Miniatures

I was toying with phot-etch railings but decided against, some how in 1/700 they look like a 3 bar picket fence especially around the edge of decks where in reality the railings are station posts with a wire strung between them. They look OK on 1/350th kits where they fit in as part of the detail but in 1/700 I feel they distort the look. I may add heli netting on the edge of the helicopter pad if I can find some suitable stuff but that's it just about done now.

Do all Soviet/Russian ships have that bright red deck colour? Hardly camouflaged, is it?

Ah yes, perhaps it's a political statement.....  ;D
