With all the threads going on about the new AZ MB5 kit (and other manufacturers), I thought instead of hijacking the other threads I'd start my own thread.

This is the Airframe 1/72 vacuform kit of the MB5, and despite some comments I've read that it wasn't the correct shape, I had matched it up after I had cut and cleaned the parts up against the 1/72 3-View drawings found in Vol VII of Aircraft of the Fighting Powers. It matched the drawings very well.

This was my very first complete vacuform build I've done. I had done quite a few partial vacuform conversions but not a complete kit. I did use many Aeroclub accessories to complete it though.

Although the photos show 2006, it was made a few years before (because at the time I didn't have a digital camera to play around with). It is one of my most favorite models (and actual aircraft) and it sits to this day at the front of my display cabinet in my office.

That really does look nice! Did you replace the canopy? The one in my kit has turned yellow. I suppose I could say it was tinted....

Thanks kerick

IIRC it is the canopy that comes with the kit, I built the kit back in the 90's

The cannon barrels come off an Attacker, as they're about the right length.

I think you should put that in a box and ship it so someone over here for 'The Great MB5 Show' at Telford this year  Robert.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Which, unfortunately, only means it matches old drawings in a series of books known for inaccuracies.  ;D
As is to be expected for the period in which the books were created.

Well Jon, the last volume was published in 1947, long after the war had finished and also long after the aircraft was cancelled. The drawing in Vol. VII matches the published dimensions of the MB5 almost exactly, depending how accurate the measuring stick you use is ----  ;D

Mind you I would agree with you on the accuracies of drawings in the volumes that were published during the war, kinda stands to reason something that was available to anyone at that time that the info would be a bit misleading and my Dad bought them as they became available.

You BET I would!

It'd need to be very well packed of course.

OK then, I'll start working on a packing box. Thanks very much Kit   Would you be going to other shows as well, I could try and send it earlier if you were.

As a wise man once said, if you can't drop kick the package down a flight of stairs without damaging the contents then you haven't wrapped it properly.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I'll be at the Milton Keynes Show on April 23rd for sure, and probably the Coventry Show later on in the year. Not sure about any others as they tend to be a bit too far from home for me these days.

I've had a thought, I could try to do one of the Falcon kits too. Then I would leave the sending till later in the year with two MB5's
