I did get some work done on this build today and I checked the Braz Super VC-10 conversion set to see what the engine pylon looked like. Unfortunately it has a straight trailing edge rather than the kinked one that's in the Roden kit.

The fuselage half's are together. Wow, is this thing going to be big! I'm going to have to PSR the windows which will slow things down, but the fuselage seam looks to be good which is a bonus. The wings, well I'll talk about them later when I have at least one of them glued together.

I rather like the concept of the President flying in on a Super VC10 VC16.

Go right ahead Rheged, I am simply doing one of the transport versions.

Exactly my point. The Supers had the kinked, convex trailing edge to the pylons, and the RAF C1s were the same as they had the Super engines. But NO-one modelled them correctly, in any scale, until Roden did it right at last.

Having said that, the VC10 engine pylon is a VERY complex shape, being twisted and angled in all directions at the same time, and I'm not sure anyone's done it 100% correctly.

[JMN Mode off]

This stern on view of G-AXLR shows what I mean to an extent. And the RB211's pylon is a giant version of the Conway's one too.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

And there was me thinking you were a Royalist ?   ;D
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I'm assuming that Her Majesty's Government had sold one across the Atlantic so that the President (no matter which party he represented) could be seen to arrive in style and comfort...........one does have to support one's allies, after all.

Got a bit more work done on this build earlier today. Fitted the tail to the fuselage and I glued the wing tops to their respective lower parts. Not much but its going to go together very quickly and look like an airliner very quickly.

Filler has been applied to a few smallish areas such the the forward half of the underwing box and the root of the tail fin where it meets the rear of the fuselage. A reasonable amount of time has been taken up in reserch into the colours for the colour scheme. FS16473 undersides with white topsides and a FS15044 cheat line between the two. I also orded some BS110 for my future C-5A build. This of course is after my previous order from Hannants arrived earlier today  :banghead:
