I hope so.
First coat of USAF Light Grey yesterday and second coat of Middle Stone today.
The grey isn't right.  I needs some yellow in it so after a quick trial involving the other 2 colours i'll be mixing it with Pale Sand.

I put on a coat of grey/sand mix today.  A much better fit with the other 2 colours.

Thanks.
Another coat of Middle Stone today.  I think it might need a pale grey filter to tie it all together.  We'll see tomorrow after another coat of Pale Sand.

Camo paint is finished.  Mixed up some "Russian Interior Blue" today and painted the cockpit and wheel wells and insides of the wheel doors.
I'm still messing about with weapons trying to workout what to load her up with.  I have a pair of MERs from a Hasegawa weapons pack but don't have 12 of the same type of bomb so i'm going to have one type on one side and another on the other.
Centreline will be a drop tank and the rails under the intakes AAMs (although the Academy ones look suspiciously like Sidewinders so may be replaced with something from an ICM Soviet weapons set).
That leaves 4 hard points on each wing to fill from a selection of rocket pods, tanks and bombs.

Looking good Fred, I have got a similar idea for a part built airfix mig 23, I bought ages ago. It willl be getting a pair of F-18 wings put on it when I get round to building it, and a load of ground pounding goodness.

You can't go far wrong with a couple of the 57mm SNEB-style multiple rocket pods...

Well, K-13/AA-2 Atoll was a direct copy of AIM-9B Sidewinder, to the point where the two were completely interchangeable*, so if the missiles are supposed to be Atolls they should look suspiciously like Sidewinders ;D Conceivably, mud-movers would get the older, less advanced missiles in stock, while the latest toys would be reserved for air superiority fighters.

*) Finnish Air Force used to fly Sidewinders on MiG's and Atolls on Drakens every now and then (probably just to cause grey hair to JMN's), and as the story goes, no modifications were necessary at all. Later they of course went even further and carried R-60/AA-8 Aphids on BAe Hawks...

Didn't know that Snowtrooper.  Thanks.
But surely the capitalist running dogs stole the design from the glorious socialist republic and rushed it into production first?
;D
Anyway, the Academy kit supplied AAMs are rather bland looking so I dug out my ICM Soviet Air to Air Weapons set and selected a pair of R-73s (NATO reporting name Archer).
I spent today selecting and fettling munitions, mixing paint and painting the outside of the undercarriage doors and touch ups on the underside.
I also glued the main gear legs together.

Decals are on and weapons are primed.  I shall now study the soviet munitions colour codes to see what colour bands to paint on the bombs.

Stripes have been painted on what feels like a million bombs.  SNEBski pods have been painted but need another coat.  Bellytankski and MERskis have been painted.  AAMskis have been painted white.
Cockpit parts still need to be sorted out.  One interesting design feature of this kit is that the joystick is moulded to the top of the front undercarriage leg and pokes up through a hole into the cockpit.  Shame it pokes through under the control panel where it would be hard to use IRL.

Pilots would've probably hated hard landings and being too heavy on the brakes when taxying... remember the pilots landing on the carrier on "Hot shots" first movie... ;D
