Sea Harrier FA2

Hi....I've been looking for conversions for FRS1 to FA2 sets. I have found the Heritage set. Does anybody know of any other sets....? Or had any experience with this set....? I have a few early Sea Harriers and I'd like them  to be later ones. Or is it easier/just as cheap to try and find some of the FA2 kits that ate about......cheers

I had an FA2 conversion kit a while back, made by an outfit in S Yorks I think, but never used it. If I've still got it you're welcome to it Hank. I'll have a look in The Loft later today.

It may be the same moulds of course, these things get moved from one vendor to another quite often.

Get the Airfix kit Hank in 72nd or the Kinetic kit in 48th as its a lot easer.

The conversion sets involve replacing the nose cone, cutting the fuselage aft of the wing and adding either a new rear fuselage or a plug together with mods to the wing root dog tooth and pylons.

Its simpler to use a kit OOB and use the surplus FRS1 kits for either real aircraft or Whiffs.

A nice one to play with is putting the Italeri/Esci Shar fwd fuselage on an Italeri AV-8B especially the early kit as it has the double layer of blown in doors of the original YAV-8B kit and can be used to make the AV-16 which is what we should have as the actual SHAR, but was also proposed for the RAF, USMC and US Navy !.

Awesome advice....many thanks...need to find two or three FA2's....i like the idea of mixing n matching the kits....i have an old italeri AV8B in USMC markings....got some GR5 kits as well....
Do you know if the Indian Navy FRS1's could take AIM9L or the AA8 Aphid missiles.. ..? I have read they were wired for sidewinders but not clear if they were ever supplied.. ..i know they carried Mates Magics...

Well they were probably wired for Sidewinders like the British Aircraft were but India didn't have that Missile as the US were supplying Pakistan instead, and they wouldn't be compatible with the Russian Aphid missiles

The Update the Indian FRS51s had however were not as drastic as the UK FA2s as they did the avionics and radar update within the existing airframe, however they were adapted to carry the Israeli Derby missile to match the AMRAAM capability of the UK ones. High Planes do the Derby missile so worth asking Colin at Freightdog about those.

Ah....yes....US supplyng the other side...it's not inconceivable that the aphid could be used is it...? I think it works like the sidewinder...it doesn't need an external sensor or anything does it....? I have a few lying about...and to be honest I like the look of them...H
