Hobby Boss 1/72 Corsair II - who's built one? Any good?

My LHS has a small stack of 1/72 Hobby Boss Corsair IIs at a reasonable (I think) price.
I keep looking at them and putting them back.  I'm tempted by the Portuguese boxing.
Are they any good?  On line reviews suggest that they are but the cockpit could do with a little help.
However, we all know that just because its on the internet doesn't mean its true. Has anyone here built one and would like to share their thoughts?

They are quite nice kits and look the part, well worth it if on offer. I had one I was building in FAA colours but I think Rickshaw beat me too it so it was left on the shelf of doom.

I'm building one at the moment. Quite a nice kit. Excellent fit. Indeed cockpit is a little simple but all in all very good value for money as far as I am concerned.
Can't really comment on the accuracy and no, mine does not look as a corsair any more as I'm building it as a biplane.......

Yes, that would do it..............  ;D ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I have a few in the stash, and have built their TA-7 too, nice kit to build, and they look like one so that is 2 thumbs up from me. My 2 seater is an OA-7M, or was until it got damaged in storage. Go for it Fred.

Thanks guys.  Accuracy isn't as important to me as fit.
Looks like a trip to the LHS is in order then...

I've enjoyed building the kit a couple of times.

One thing in its favour is the number of small bits you get as spares.

I built the TA-7C, fits okay, most I remember was around the intake.  It's supposed to be off, but I can live with it.  Leave the vertical stabs until last as the pins are thin and snap easily.  The instructions say the gas bags go on the outer pylons, Ed S tipped me off that only the inner pylons are wet.

Might have plugged this once or twice.  Tone of the build sounds bad, but I fought the kit rather than it fighting me.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I have one in the stash - with a plan for a whif, too - and it's a very good kit (in all of its incarnations), as far as I can tell. I settled on this one because I have built several A-7s, and all of them had flaws and weaknesses. A relatively good one was the ESCI kit (also box under Italeri banner, IIRC), but it has no air intake duct!

The Hobby Boss kit has everything you might ask for, with very crisp and fine details. You even get some access panels that can be built in open position - I feel inclined to call it the best current option in 1:72 around, but it can be pricey. Can't wait to build mine (an A-7E), but still wait for the inspirational trigger...

The hobby boss kit is a great kit! lots of small parts, nice engraved panel lines...hatches can be openend with nice detail behind it. Lots of whif potential too:

Thanks guys.
I did go and buy one after my reply on the 23rd March.
I did get the Portuguese version (A-7P).
A paint only whiff is a possibility (RAN FAA, South Africa, Jordan, Chad...) but part of me is thinking What If it had a variable incidence wing like the Crusader.
