Planes in Strange Places

Saw this yesterday just a couple blocks from the house. Upon closer inspection it was one of our own Oklahoma AWACS.

On the side of a delivery/moving truck...

How about this Buccaneer parked in a filling station in Elgin Scotland, a few miles south of Lossiemouth from where it last flew.

Brit viewers please don't cry too much over the fuel prices shown in the pic, it was taken a while ago obviously.

Looks like a well kept show piece!! Gotta love it... you know it's some old fella that owns the whole shootin' match, store, plane, and all & one day he said, "hell why not... " and then there was a war jet at the filling station.

Holy crap, man... I can't tell if the story in the write-up is outright bovine excrement or just one of the most astonishing tales I've ever heard! Where to start?! I was going to quote bits and pieces but the entire thing is nuts and needs to be read in it's entirety.

It's an "account" and not an official record but please God let it be true! Such a rich and brilliant story if so.. and either way, the thing wound up there and I agree that it would be very cool to have it restored and back.

That beats hell out of having a Bucanneer just PARKED on your fuel station forecourt, the B-17 WAS the fuel station!

Well there is this one I saw in McMinnville Oregon, and yes, it's mounted on top of the building. It's an old Evergreen 747 which is now used as the starting point for waterslides. (I should mention that Evergreen has it's home base in McMinnville, it's also right by the Evergreen Aerospace Museum where they have the Hughes HK-1 on display)

As far as I know the B-17 story is true, or at least the plane on the gas station part. Story has been around for a long time.

There used to be a Harrier GR.3 in the Trocadero amusement arcade in London in a crazy scheme. It was removed a few years back and the cockpit section has been restored and placed in the museum at the ex-RAF Gütersloh.

Not my pic, took a fair bit of hunting down on teh web.
