Have you seen Shapeways prices? £12 for the plastic and £14 postage. They must be handcrafted on the thighs of a virgin, wrapped in gold and hand delivered for that money!

If there are any decent scale drawings for them it would be quicker and far cheaper to build them yourself!

Nope, not a Brexit thing.  Just for Essess and Gees, I took a gander:

On their website it says that shipments (their European factory is in the Netherlands) to the UK incur a 2.5%, min £11.50 disbursement fee, applied by the carrier, for customs clearance. That would explain the £14.14 P&P charge they're applying to my test order. As for Scooter's $9.99 for internal shipment in the US, that's about £7.20. I don't whether that's reasonable or not: If it isn't, then maybe US carriers are charging more for COVID precautions?

Found the order I placed on Paypal:

Cost: £18.59 GBP = €20.72 EUR at a rate of 1 GBP = 1.1146 EUR (current rate is about 1.16)
Assuming the EXINT pods were the same price (£8.64 for 1 open + 1 closed in 1/72nd), that means the P&P was £9.95.

2 x closed: £9.45 / £14.48
2 x open: £9.25 / £14.75
1 x open, 1 x closed:  £8.64 / £14.50

So in 1/72nd, 2 x closed is the dearest option, but in 1/48th, it's the cheapest!

The bits & pieces I've bought from Shapeways recently, the postage has always been on the high side. But I got the parts inside two weeks -- that included manufacture and traveling time --- and it's because they use a courier service and not US mail service. The parts came from the mid US south and I'm in Alberta Canada.

One of the factors in Shapeways pricing is the volume that the parts take up, ie not just the amount of material in the part, but the amount of space they require in the printer. They pack as many parts as possible in a single print run.

So you can influence the price by cleverly arranging the parts. The 1/48 prices make sense: the closed pods take the least amount of space.
I suspect the 1/72 parts use a different arrangement.

Fair enough in principle, but I don't see how you can arrange one closed and one open pod to take up less space than two closed pods though...
