2017/2018 Group Build Schedule and Poll - Provisional

"CLEAR THE BENCH".  I know getting rules layed down for something like this could be treacherous but I put some thought into it about a week ago and (at the time, now I can't quite remember it all..    ) had came up with a few solutions that could make it work...    a group effort could have us all doing a lot of good to de-clutter. At the same time, this could wind up being boring a task with a lack of enthusiasm, so, yeah...  I understand the problems with this one.

Many of you may have heard of "Sealand" and the sort... "The Conch Republic" or "The Republic of Molossia"  (I'm making an aircraft for this one as we speak, but it has stalled .... . . . .)  This could be a lot of fun. All the new colors, all the new roundels, all the new cars, trucks, armor, helicopters, and you name it...   potential for new back stories and tie-ins...

CORPORATIONS.  "Wal Mart Air Force"   "McDonalds Army."   I've had my own thoughts of building a P-51 in the wal mart colors... blue on bottom dark blue thin line between, grey up top... the lil Wal Mart smiley face for roundels...   This has the benefit of a fair amount of transfers being already in existence for things such as auto racing model kits.

PLANETARY/SOLAR SYSTEM.   Mess with the Solar System..... A Neptunian Marines main battle Tank.... a Saturn Air force MiG 29.  Earth is off limits.  What if the Sun had an armed forces or... hell, even a completely non aggressive stateless existence and people just had Sun-Craft?   "Luna Air Force"...  (just throwing ideas at the wall with this one but why not?) We could go even further and have different factions or groups on the same planets even.. Plenty of opportunity with space fairing vessels and sci fi, too!  Interplanetary stuff.... etc. Oort cloud Defence Force?   Asteroid Belt cruise line?  How's about contemporary planes with every so slight modifications that allow them to pass from atmo to outer space?  Anyone see the Doctor Who episode(s) with Spitfires dog-fighting in space?   

I'll leave it at this for now.. I'm sure I could come up with a million suggestions but I'd rather not clog things up with a bunch of stuff that might not be popular. If I think of more that might appeal to EVERYONE, I'll be sure to mention it.

As to old Bert's bowling, the Grammar School equivalent in Carlisle was the staff sixth form football match. It never ever finished with the full 11 on each side, usually with a sixth former and a staff member attending A&E!

Ah yes the annual boys v masters football match  I was at a Secondary Modern School therefore our "senior" competitive side would have been fourth year as so many boys left at 15 back then. Nevertheless we managed to get a reasonable side together (about half the side stayed on). Played in a couple of games,one as a fourth former the other as a fifth, but only put one master in hospital 

The cricket match was different, we were an athletics school in the summer, and the masters were far better than us, indeed a couple had played for their universities. "Old" Bert used to open the bowling and put a few of us in hospital, including me with a busted rib  Good old days and no hard feelings.

"Old" Bert was probably not much than 30 by the way and became a good friend post school.

Good guess Kit, while converting a CF-100 Mk.4B back into a Mk.3 using the standard wing (no wingtip tanks) I realized that the plan view of the wing looked like a F-82 outer wing --- only bigger. Laying various Mustang wings (F-82 and P-51H) over the CF-100 wing proved I was right. And by moving the Mustang wings out towards the wingtip so the leading and trailing edges would line up, so the idea started to form.  But I got stuck to what sort of nose to use and couldn't find what I thought I had in the spares box. Then I had a flash of inspiration after finding a TSR2 recon' pack I had bought for some reason, I'd use it on the project where I'll use the CF-100 MK.5 I've got (which has bigger wing and tail planes already). This means moving the engine nacelles out a bit from the fuselage sides to make room for the recon pack on the centerline. Which in turn allows for some high bypass engines to be used ----
Of course the usual happens, while looking for something else, I found the nose I was sure I had (I was thinking I might have given it away to someone), a RF-101C nose -- some trial fitting later and I find it fits quite well --- I'm going to use the wings from the abandoned Beechnut P-51H for the wing extensions.
The idea is it would have been an Arctic border patroller, where the RCAF started pioneering real-time surveillance, using TV cameras which transmitted the pictures back to ground relay stations. 
Kit, maybe you can help me here, what were the high resolution camera lenses called in the old cameras that used film.

Vinton made the hi-res camera  lenses for the RAF  and the US Perkins-Elmer company made some for the USAF,  but the usual thing they were called (by the Treasury) was "TOO DAMNED EXPENSIVE!!"

Plus the Land Corporation made the monster Bar camera that was fitted in the RB-57Fs IIRC.

Rumour has it that one of them found its way to RAF Marham and sort fell underneath a Canberra PR9 there........

Thanks but what I meant was were they called Hi-Res lenses. I got something in the back of my head which I can't quite remember what the word was. I thought resolution was digital orientated

Not a 101% conversion of one type to another (e.g. years ago I recall seeing in a magazine a conversion of a Grumman F-11 into a Supermarine Swift), but rather a build that turns one thing into an approximation or caricature of another, like the F-16 turned into (ish) an Angel Interceptor and shown at 2011's SMW.

A Chinese build, which includes aircraft that they have copied from Russia or the West including France. This also covers World War II aircraft lent by the Allied Forces and current fixed wing and rotorary.

The Polar Express covers Arctic and Antarctica regions, skis optional!

The Wacky Racers based roughly on the cartoon. Cars, trucks and tracked vehicles.

Piggyback/Mistel combinations no more than three aircraft high. Civil airliner combos or military combos.

Boneyard, where aircraft to die. Aircraft stripped of their parts or vehicles picked for parts. This includes boats and ships.

The Rational Sci-Fi GB.

Take a vehicle from a well-known sci-fi film, TV series or whatever, and re-imagine it as if it actually had to obey the laws of physics. Obviously you don't have to be 100% strict about it (or we'd all be aircraft/spaceship designers) but the idea is to be more strict than the guy who designed it in the first place.

For instance: given the quoted speed and range figures, the thing that's most wrong with the Angel Interceptor before anything else is that it's just WAY too small. I have an alternative in mind, based on an RF-101C Voodoo...

I actually have a note in my diary to run a Great War Commemoration GB as an "extra" Group Build to run alongside the normal 3 plus the One Week GB in 2018 Mossie. It would run for the whole year in the background. That was the plan anyway.

I'll sort the Poll for this seasons out over the course of the weekend and it will run for 2 weeks.
