I was thinking along those line this morning whilst in Costa's. HMSC (Her Majesty's Space Craft) Daedalus on display for the Coronation Navy review in 1953, the Royal Navy having won out over the RAF in the fight to control Britain's space fleet.  ;)

Hovering over Portsmouth or making a low flypast at 18000 mph?  ;D ;)

She'll be in the static park for all the kids to oggle at  ;D

My thought processes whilst in Costa's was of a cross Ministry meeting to decide who got Spaceships. Whilst the Navy and RAF were arguing the Army piped up and suggested it should wear khaki. The meeting suddenly stopped, everything went quiet for a couple of seconds and then they all turned, looked at the General in question and burst out laughing. The argument between Navy and Airforce then continued. Made me smile and I have no idea why these thoughts came to me on a lovely sunny day  I blame my old Dad's 6 years of wearing navy blue  ;D

Your Forteanism is showing H.   ;D
I could make this into a discussion but it prolly isn't the place.

Feel free to start a thread in Everyday Chat if you want to.

Bear in mind that my interest in these things doesn't signify belief in them (which is the truly Fortean position, of course). These are waters that I like to fly over once in a while to see what colour they are today and what the sea-state is like, but I decline to fish in them since my observation is that most of the rank amateurs who have done so have come up with nothing more than red herrings, sharks, and tangled nets...  ;)

I'm with you there H.

I used to post on the Fortean Times forum years ago but some of the other members were decidedly un-Fortean in their beliefs.  You should have seen the fuss it caused when I innocently enquired why only stupid people got abducted by aliens.

I made a decision today regarding the first of my builds for this GB.  Originally I was going to dieselpunk up a Bandai 1/72 Y-Wing.  However, I got it out today and had a look through the box and it's far too nice a kit to whiff.
What I mean by that is that is has such gorgeous detail and is so well designed that any parts I added to it would stand out like a sore thumb and it would be beyond my level of scratchbuilding skills to add the required level of "stuff" to them to make them look like they belonged.
Also, the Y-Wing is my favourite ship in Star Wars and i'd like to have one built up and on display.

Yep, the magazine's pretty good though - they regularly publish articles that are very skeptical of the believers' sacred cows....

Zen, you could always keep it on, just make up a new squadron and paint for it, and boom, it's a whiff. :)

Yeah thanks, I realise that but it's a really really nice kit with so much detail that I want to take my time with it and don't want the pressure of a deadline i might not meet (especially as i've got a 3 week break in August when guests arrive).

Fair point and I can understand that playing host, gratuitously takes time away from modeling.

Personally, I'd like to see more Science Fiction stories that reflect Royal Navy tradition and terminology, rather than US Navy stuff.   Something about the blandness of US Navy terminology annoys me, whereas RN stuff is much more interesting.

The recent Dan Dare comics did just that... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6354430-dan-dare-omnibus-volume-1

Dr Who had Spitfires in Space too - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RueFey2aPc

First call lads, but you've got just under 4 weeks to go

OK.  I was wondering.
I should be able to finish the Cyber Formula car in that time (shiny paint so I need good weather to spray it) and may throw something else together.

THE END IS NIGH!! OR IS IT?

About this time in most GBs we have an elephant in the room, which is cruel ( and messy )

so in the name of prevention of cruelty to animals and modellers i will show the poor animal the door, that is to say....... EXTENSION ANYONE?

CBE
Remember, if the reality police ask you haven't seen us in ages!
When does "old enough to know better" kick in?

strobez

I don't think I need an extension (famous last words), however, I do have a question about how to present my entry.  My GB project took on a life of its own and now I'm not quite sure how to stuff it back in the box.

For those that have been watching, my GB has focused on several mini projects related to the works of Hiyao Miyazaki (of Studio Ghibli fame). My first completed works were spot on the Sci-Fi target.... the Flapter from Laputa, the Mehve from Nausicaa, and the Aero-Kayak from Howl's Moving Castle.  It started to take a turn sideways and also includes a mini-truck from Totoro and the bird-plane from The Wind Rises.  The grand finale will be the submarine from Ponyo (if I can ever get those $&#%! windows in!) and the Fiat from Lupin III.

So now my question is... should these be entered as separate entries, or should they be combined as one?  If they're combined, should I exclude the (strictly speaking) non-Sci-Fi elements?

I suppose while I'm at it, I should confirm that both "the crazy feathered bird plane that Jiro flies in his dream in the film The Wind Rises" and the "strange flapping submarine that Fujimoto drives underwater in the film Ponyo" both count.  I'm guessing there's no concerns with the Flapter/Mehve/Aero-Kayak and that the Fiat 500 and Daihatsu 3-wheeled truck are excluded.

Perhaps I should mention, I don't really care either way... I had a blast with this GB and am not concerned if I worked myself out of contention.  Besides... after that damned Dragonfly entry, first place is sewn up anyway. ;)
Thanks!

Greg

I would prefer an extension.  I can probably get mine done in time (fingers crossed) but an extension would make it much more comfortable.  Otherwise I'll probably have to cut a few corners and in general be scrambling to get it done.

NARSES2

As Brian has said the GB is now closed, so if anyone wants any unfinished builds moved to current build threads PM me and I'll try and sort it.

Also the Poll will be up and running in the next couple of days.
