It's alreet, I s'pose...
Praise indeed LOL

Looking good so far. Should be even better once finished.
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

I was thinking the same.  ;D

Got the Xtracolor Dark Sea Grey on everywhere it's meant to be now, and amazingly it took less than a day to dry! I've touched up the overruns and underuns etc and got on the first coat of Klear. Some of the decals are printed and I've yet to do the little fiddly paintwork, like engine exhausts etc.

Lots more progress tomorrow with luck.

The white top and planning area's painted, and it's looking REALLY good! <big head mode off>
I confirm: it looks VERY good, like natural in those colours.
[the word "realistic" hurts my heart...]

It's decal time for the Monterey, probably my fave part of the modelling process. The model comes 'alive' when the decals are applied, it starts to look as my imagination generated it back when I started.

For the Monterey I've used a number of decals from the FROG Shackleton kit, which was a 206 Squadron aircraft, and wore its squadron number in LARGE white outlined red numbers on the fuselage side. Printing red on white with an ink jet printer isn't easy, and would need LOTS of very accurate scalpel work, so I'm using the '206's from the Shack with the 6 turned upside down to become a 9 for my 209 Squadron Monterey.  ;D

The big D Type roundels come from the superb Modeldecal sheets, and I'll have to track down some more of those sheets soon as a result. I've printed some of the detail stuff, including the ejection seat hatches, triangles and 'rescue' arrows etc.

The P6M has socking great water brakes on each side of the after hull which are outlined in black. Mach 2 don't give you these outlines as decals (!) but print them on the instruction sheet (the phrase 'instruction sheet' is used here in its WIDEST possible sense!) so I thought I'd scan the outlines and print them out..........

WRONG!

Not only are the outlines the wrong shape for the water brakes, but the water brake outlines engraved on each side of the hull are DIFFERENT!  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So this has become a major task, so I've photographed the water brake outlines, both of them, and then scaled them to the correct size, then I have to draw the outlines up to make the decals, one for each side of course.

Why do I do this to myself, eh?  :o

Yea, but how much did you get where it shouldn't be ?  ;)

Totally agree Kit. I've had cases where I wasn't to keen on my model and then put the transfers on and.....pow, it all came together
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I refuse to comment in the grounds that I'll certainly incriminate myself, but my work trousers may take some cleaning next time around.

My ancient motorised paint stirrer (it's a 1965 vintage Revell slot racing motor with an L shaped brass tube soldered to the shaft) can be a tad unpredictable at times........

I've got all the decals on now, bar those blasted water brake outlines.  :banghead:

Just when I really need some I ran out of the varnish I use to coat the raw decal paper, and tried an alternative that seems to dissolve inkjet decals. Not QUITE what I had in mind really.

So we're on plan B now, off to find some better varnish, it'd be difficult to find any worse!

Looking good Kit, surprised you didn't have the Aeroclub Shackleton decals to hand as that should have had most of what you needed, although with the recent Airfix and Revell Shackleton kits there are a number of new decal sets available although no where near as comprehensive as John Adams work.

Air Graphics aka Model Alliance re-launched again by Gary Madgwick, are due to release a set of RAF ground crew in resin wearing shorts to represent MEAF/FEAF crew in the 60s, might look the part on the flying boat ramp at RAF Gan.

Sorted those blasted waterbrake decals at last, so now all the decals are on. Just needs varnishing, the small details painted and a bit of light weathering. Oh yeah, that ruddy Vulcan cannon needs finishing too!  :banghead:

On its beaching trolley, as it'll be on the SIG stand at Telford I hope.

The underside is pretty bare, which is why I plan to do a little weathering on the hull.

To me too!
But for Telford you should build a simpler stand for the aircraft, like those used for model ships, and show the trolley independently, with the work in progress photos. It DESERVES its own place of honour (and a nomination here, of course)
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.
