Thought I would start this thread seeing that there apparently is not one that covers this specifically.

Why?

Well I bought a couple of weeks ago a drill from Lidl for a very nice price.

The item was a "Parkside" Modelling & Engraving set "PMGS 12 C3" is the type.

I do already have an electric drill but in the next few days that will be packed away for this little beauty to take its place on my modelling bench. The sliding Power switch on the handle starts slow enough to use a cutting disc on/in/through plastic with no problems such as additional swarf or melting the hole behind the cut due to friction.

I have also found in Lidl in the last month or so a set of files. "Powerfix Profi" Diamond Warding Files, its a set of ten files described as "Ideal for working with hard metals, ceramics, glass, etc." so sounds ideal for some of the odd plastics that we meet now and again.

I'll play  ;D

Never thought of looking in Lidl's, but to be honest I haven't got a handy one.

Anyway recently in Tiger (the up market £ Store) I've got tweezers of various types/sizes and some small glass jars with the lids that are held on by the old fashioned style metal push down/lift up contraption (used to be on pop bottles) which are idea for storing thinners, Klear and many other liquids. 2 for a £ or as they were on special offer 4 for a £

Well worth looking in
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Picked up the set of tools that went with the drill I bought earlier. I was surprised to see that the variable speed drill was still available although it will probably depend on which store you go to

Picked up some more double sided "padded" tape from £ Store. They had a lot in and you never know when they'll stop selling it.

Picked up a set of four clamps in Lidl's today for just under £4. A bit bigger and heftier than I already have but ideal for large areas at a good price too.

I picked up a new cutting mat for the new workbench, now need to try and keep from spilling glue and paint on it  :banghead:

That'll never happen.   :-\  I now view them as consumables...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

That's why I use newspapers instead. Yesterday's news, tomorrow's glue and paint absorber.

Thought that I woould kick start this thread again but without the year on it as there is not enough traffic to warrant a new thread for thhis year.

I bought a couple of sets of tools

Got totaly confused when the Reamer and file set arrived but I could not find the parts which were hideing in the handle  :banghead:

Captain Canada

Those are sweet !

I added a few toothpicks from the rig camp kitchen to my travelling kit. No pics as I'm sure those of us with teeth have all used them. Good for stir sticks and tiny paint applications, like the chopper windows I'm doing in 600 scale.

Stirring sticks from coffee shops are worth having in your kit.   I've used them for stirring,  as palisade walls for Rheged minor's Warhammer modelling. as components for jetties and many others.    One of the staff at my preferred coffee emporium is a motor vehicle modeller (a bit JMNish but a very pleasant bloke) and he gave me a handful, saying "Take as many more as you need"

Madame R is happy to pass on emery boards, and old pairs of tweezers.

Would that be a place with some motor racing connections maybe?  ;D

In this case, no.    Ascari  is remarkably good for lunches  (and has a wonderful Walenty Pytel sculpture on the wall made from old car parts) , but Coffee 1 in Hereford town centre, and in Leominster is our preferred coffee emporium.

I'll make a note of them, thanks.

I love going to Ascari, but spend most of my time looking at the pics on the wall!  ;D

I have a load which I have converted into mini sanders. I've used double sided sticky tape from the £1 Store which is about 2mm thick and has some give, stick this to the sander and attach whatever grade sand/emery paper you choose. I have a load of them in various grades of sand/emery. I also have some wider sanders made from the tape. It's thickness enables it to have some sand paper stuck to both sides and voila you have a double sided sander  Cheap and easily replaceable  ;D I also have some very thin ones made from cocktail sticks.

The only downside is that you can't wet sand as the tape doesn't like water that much, you can get away with it once or twice but that's it. Mind you it only takes 30 seconds or so to make a replacement.
