Some prep documentation - Maskol on the front and small top side window:

The choice of colors: grey primer, then a basic coat of RAL 7036 (Platingrau) and then RAL 7047 (Telegrau). The VW/Audi tone is just in case, for a final highlight on the upper surfaces.

For the main canopy's masking I used wet facial paper tissue - An experiment I read about from a diorama modeler who uses this method e. g. for airbrushing airfield markings,
Since the braces on the main canopy are just self-adhesive plastic tape, I did not dare to use masking tape or even Maskol.
Did not work 100% well, though (something MUST go awry in such projects). While the masking itself proved to be easy and effective, some of the paints' solvent must have crept through the stuff and made the clear parts slightly cloudy. Not much, but this will need attention. Rats... :-/
Hope I can polish the ressidue away appears to be only superficial and very light.

Ah, all things to be judged by what they are up against. Right from the Battle of Endor:

Found on a random surf but can't locate the exact competition page the picture is from but it belongs to one Jon Hrubesch

Love the very big looking guns, but I still hope for "heavy space bombs" and "concussion missiles".

Add some pusher propellers and those fighters would like very Luft '46-ish...?

Looks good homogenised.  Good luck with the canopy.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Thank you, I will need it, I guess...   :-\

More pics from the thing with the final coat of paint and fitted with the panels will follow soon, too.

Consequently, there's no correlation between the text and what you see on the model...
Well, that's also true for some of the "official" materials. The TIE Interceptor model clearly has ten lascannons, the usual two below the "ball", two on each side in "wingroots", one in each "wingtip", yet the games and fluff only gave it the four wingtip guns  Likewise, the Lambda class shuttle (the ones seen in ROTJ) has much more guns on the actual studio model & kits thereof than the fluff ever gave it.

Then there's the length of Executor-class Super Star Destroyer (Vader's flagship) - TESB novelization simply stated it was "larger than the five Star Destroyers escorting it" and fluff writers misinterpreted this as "five times as large" or 5 mi/8 km long. Except it was clearly visible in the films (and was explicitly written on the design blueprints) that the model was scaled so that it was supposed to be 11 mi/17,7 km long. The latter, correct, length was then retconned into the canon sometime in the 2000's.

The list goes on and on

Great, now I really want a Bandai 1/72 X-Wing, and paint it up in my character's color scheme, lol

It's almost perfect.

But only written in VERY capital letters...

Besides, good news from the canopy: it was really just a kind of cloudy residue. With my engraving tool, some polishing paste and two different buffing bits (felt and very soft cloth), the thing is probably clearer and more glossy than OOB. Even the tape braces held well, except for one, and this was easy to repair.

Painting on the solar panels started, too,. I laid them out first with Revell 91 (Iron metallic), drying now, and then a thicker black ink wash will follow. I have to see how this turns out, though. And the canopy braces will habe to be painted in light grey, too. They actually don't look bad in black (as is), but I want them to be more visible, so that the size of the TIE/E - compared with a standard TIE Fighter in the same scale - becomes more obvious. It's a massive thing in direct comparison. I already considered getting another MPC TIE Interceptor, just to place it next to the TIE/E for direct reference...

A very good idea, that.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

...or I bash something from the two (better one-and-a-half) original donor kits. Maybe a TIE/S Scout...?

Anyway, things moved forward again! First of all, the grey canopy braces. Changes the look a good deal, IMHO:

A bit like the Milennuim Falcon's cockpit?  :o

Then the solar panels, with the black-ink-on-Revell-91 treatment:

...and then an extra, overall wash that settles in the surface details - now the kit becomes more three-dimensional:

And, finally, the fuselage receives the same ink wash treatment - and gravity does most of the work:

Looks more and more Imperial and like a movie prop!
But still a lot of work ahead...
