One thing I'd love to see that P1000 kit whiffed into would be some sort of sci-fi "land battleship".  Remove or modify the WWII era guns and put some different sci-fi type looking guns and systems on board.
Obvious starting point for any of Keith laumer's Bolo "tanks".

Or to put it another way, it's basically a dieselpunk Ogre Mk.V, (actually more like a Paneuropean Fencer, given it's single, twin-gun turret).

What am I on about? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogre_(game)#Editions

Remove the battleship guns, load it up with a Natter launching system and Wasserfall AA missiles and Roberts your Aunties brother, a "mobile" AA system

The only problem being that it would be more expensive than anything you could possibly want to protect... ;)

Apparantly it was already on pre-order at HLJ.com:

https://hlj.com/product/MOLUA72088

"This item is expected to be released on or about 12/31. We will accept additional orders at that time if supplies are sufficient."

List Price:     ¥11,400
Our Price:    ¥9,120 (= $84.33 USD; €70.06) plus postage

There's also a weapon set available (Jan. 2018), full of spare weapons from other Heer '46 kits (and apparently great general whiffing fodder, too! ):

https://hlj.com/product/MOLUA72150/

Now that looks sweet!

Post-war adaptions onto Allied vehicles perhaps? Modelcollect already do kits that put most of those turrets onto 'paper-panzer' hulls, including the Rheintochter.

I'd be tempted to make the Ratte more Ogre-like by turning those six squares on it's rear decking into launch silos for Brengun Wasserfalls...

So now that you have 1/72 main gun turrets, who's going to build a 1/72 battleship ------

Or, who's going to buy the whole kit so they can make a 1/72 diorama of the Gneisenau turret in a coastal defence bunker?

Unless it was protecting a P1000?
Given their vulnerability to air attack each P1000 will be escorted at all times by its own mobile flak city...

It's an interesting use of the word "mobile" that's for sure  ;)

I can't even begin to work out where (let alone how) they would have assembled it. Then you've got to fuel it up, what with ? Then you have to drive it somewhere in order for it to do something useful. Lets just hope it doesn't need to cross any rivers ?

It just sums a lot of things up, that's for sure.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Heh - so now we have 'close support' B-17s dropping command-guided Disney Bombs from ever-greater heights, while simultaneously trying to jam the guidance signals from command-guided Wasserfalls  :o. You might imagine the bomb and the missile exchanging brief pleasantries as they pass each other...

What everyone neglects, because they aren't sexy, are the dozens of hundred-ton armoured excavators, graders and concrete layers that would precede the Ratte everywhere it went... ;)

As I commented on Beyond the Sprues in a similar thread, cheapest way to deal with them would be a Tallboy (like 617 Sqn did with the Tirpitz and other ""mobile"" targets). And the Disney Bomb.  After the war, the Tallboy was the RAF's main weapon against capital ships, they even looked at TV guided ones which led to other types of guided bombs, you can read about it in BSP, Hypersonics and Missiles (I think that's the title)

Exactly, fuel ? roads ? other transport ? I know I'm just taking this far to seriously but I honestly cannot believe this was a serious proposal. It will just not get past the "gate keepers" of my imagination  ;)
