Random idea: how about a Heinkel He 70 on twin floats, a bit like a precursor to the He 115? The kit's easily available and perhaps a pair of PM spitfire floats might do the job.

Well I was thinking that the inverted gull wing would be particularly suitable for twin floats on streamlined pylons, but either configuration would work.

There's been a few ideas to convert the Airfix 1/72 HS/BAe Nimrod into a flying boat.
I doubt that anyone has changed the wings from turbojet to turboprop.

Start with a Caudron C.714, mount the engine upside-down and butt the tail up.  Bugatti Model 100 wings.  Floats from a Curtiss SC-1 /Seahawk.  The Bugatti wings will be the hardest part.

Yeah, the fly in the ointment is definitely the Bugatti!

My first thought was DH.88 Comet, if you cut the wings off at an angle (too small?), or possibly use the outer wings from a Mossie and extend the tips (longer wings....).  That might just make the project viable.

If you could live with less extreme taper, Curtiss P-40 wings would probably do the job. You could perhaps fit them with extended wintips to make the taper even more apparent.

The Yak piston-engined fighters all had triangular wings, although with roughly equal sweep on leading and trailing edges: pehaps those could be fitted at an angle by trimming the roots?
