I am going to try and get to this but looking like I will be on the bus or train as I can't drive yet. I missed it last year, don't want to miss it again.

I've briefly considered this one but the costs are against me if I want to go Huddersfield next month as well.

Be warned if going by train - Rail Replacement Bus service between Bolton and Manchester or Preston.

National Rail website are showing a funny journey, 2 hour train London to Manchester Piccadilly, 2 minute :o train Piccadilly to Manchester Oxford Road, then a 1 hour bus to Bolton.

One thing is for sure I won't be able to spend much as I will be crutch bound and everything ill have to go in a small rucksack. Good thing or bad thing, bit of both really

They've opened the new Ordsall Chord track that connects Manchester Piccadilly direct to Manchester Victoria via Oxford Rd. The new chord means there's lot more trains on the route now.

Its actually due to the Electrification work on the line between Bolton & Preston, they discovered that the line runs over former early mine workings so have encountered issues when placing the gantries for the overhead lines. They are closing the Bolton to Preston line at weekends to allow the work to be done without effecting the mon-fri commute.

Tyneside are going, so I'll be there.  Hopefully with some kits to sell on.  I need the cash and the space, so there could well be a few larger Airfix boxes.

You'll be lucky, they only managed one run of the new tooled kit before they went tits up again so are pretty hard to find in Canada let alone the UK.

Plenty of the older ones about but try to get the black boxing with the correct aileron actuators.

The shows new venue worked very well indeed.
I know the host club were over the moon with the numbers displaying, trading and visiting.

Here are the photos I took of both the What if? SIG and Project cancelled SIG displays.

The only other time I've been to the Bolton show was one held in August '99 and that was in a school or college, so the new venue was a definite plus.  They lost marks for the woeful canteen running out of scran early on, although that's not the club's fault.  The aisles did get somewhat crowded at times and there were far too many people wearing hats indoors for my liking (my secret police would have had a field day).  Quite a few of the attendees had serious personal hygiene issues - several I passed smelled as though they'd bathed in cowdung for a week, used urine as aftershave/deodorant and dog turds for toothpaste.

However, these gripes aside, it was a good show, some superb models on the tables - I was particularly taken with a 144th Blackburn Firecrest - and brilliant to catch up with some friends.
