So what the hell have I been doing?

I havn't been posting much on the site recently. Some of this is down to non-modelling factors: a new job, other interests, and a spate of health concerns and subsequent doctor's appointments (nothing to worry about as it turned out, but that took some establishing).

However another factor has been that my friend Lisa tasked me with making a mobile for her new baby's cot, that was 'all planes and rockets' in order to 'start him off right' - she has a commendable attitude... I think she thought I was going to throw some model parts together fairly quickly, but that's not really on (too many small and sharp bits) so I elected to make the things out of wood; the first time I've done this is years.

It all took much longer than I expected, partly due to my own procrastination, plus when I did get going I couldn't find a lot of the tools I knew I had somewhere. Lastly, I had great difficulty trying to make a hot air balloon out of a plastic egg, to which paint simply refused to adhere, so in the end I gave up, 'cheated' and bought a very nice ready-made one from Ebay. I thus CANNOT take credit for the hot-air balloon in the pics.

Anyhow, here's some pics. In addition to the balloon there's a prop plane, a jet/rocket plane, a space capsule (roughly patterned after a Soyuz) and a space rocket that's made from the rocket in the Airfix TSR.2 Stratos 4 kit.

The little 'weather scenery' flats halfway up the cords were bought ready-made from Ebay (unpainted).

And here's a (hopefully) satisfied customer, little baby Harvey (he arrived on the same weekend as the hurricane: guess what his first starter kit's going to be in a few years... )



Anyway, now that's all out of the way, normal modelling service (i.e. incredibly slow and incompetent) will be resumed shortly!

Terrific work there H, the paintjobs are especially good, and I know only too well how difficult it is to get a good finish on wood. 

They're the art-paint spray cans that Hobbycraft are selling at discount at the moment: the same ones that Halfords used to sell that I painted your H.A.T. Gnat with. Think paperchase sell them too. They're all different brand names, but they all have the same design of can with a colour-coded 'dome' under the nozzle.
