it is quite like his DC-8 actually, not?

NOTHING'S as glorious as Calder's DC8-62!   ;D

One day I'll build my Minicraft -63 as a -62 and use the Calder decal sheet I've had for over 20 yrs.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

The BMW "Batmobiles" are a work of art however they are painted.

Finished off the wing & tails yesterday.

And mocked up with the flying bridge today.

The paint on the wings has the interesting effect of making it look like it has been photographed in dappled shadow.  Which it hasn't.
I suppose that is the point of camouflage.  A whole aircraft painted in a similar scheme would be interesting.  Something with a lot of surface area.  A Vulcan, Canberra or YB-49 maybe.  None of which I have in the stash.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Still an awesome paint scheme, Fred!

Had a setback.  I discovered my planned positioning of the Flying Bridge/Gun Deck meant an overlapping of the blades of the centre engine with engines #2 & #3.
After a bit of bumming and ahhhing modifications have been made and progress continues with paint.
I have also added all the struts for the tail (OOB) and wings (scratchbuilt).  Although the engineer in me is telling me I need a few extra struts under the wings.

Two B-314 for FDR were painted in similar manner (the hulls + nacelles only):

Excellent.
Goes to show nothing is ever original.

Thanks.

That looks a lot like the ship schemes that were meant to confuse their size.

Old Wombat

Has the look of an early digital scheme.

Coming along with this.
I've been painting the boats and building their underwing gantries.  Also the crew and props.

Scratchbuilt some fittings today which will go on the boat gantry rails and from which the boats will hang.
Also painted the Oerlikon.

Like me in a foot race its clawing its way to the finish line inch by painstaking inch...

Today I finally got to satin clear her, remove the masking from the windows, glue on the canopy and attach the fifth engine & flying bridge.
I also popped out and bought a reel of "rope" coloured cotton thread to use to sling the boats from.

I have dropped the mast plan but might attach a flag pole if I get time.

Today I have mostly been scratchbuilding tiny hooks and Vickers gun mountings, painting Vickers guns and scratchbuilding walkways.
I may have glued my fingers together a couple of times.

Here is a photo of the Sky Pirates boats.  These will be slung beneath the wings of the flying boat using the aforementioned tiny hooks.
