A MAST?  Whatever next?   :o :o

Will it have a spinnaker and boom as well?

I have decided to give this a folding mast and large folding rudder so it can be sailed (hence the walkways).  Reasons for this will be explained in the back story.

Wonders of the human imagination  ;D I initially typed a fair few other impressions but being a moderator  ;) I just wonder what Mrs Z thinks ? Although I suppose it goes along the lines of "well it keeps him from the pub and I know where he his"
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Today I added a dashboard and seat for the helmsman.
I also added some vertical panelling to cover the gap beneath the Airacobra exhaust hole (engine covers for the rear engine) and some horizontal to cover the gap adjacent to the Mustang fuselage (walkways along the side of the hull between the wings and tails).

I am not sure humanity is ready for such a ?? Thing? Contraption? Clever-multirole-aerial-yacht?  :o
Be careful when you will be showing your progress. There are sensitive souls here.  ;D
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Not imagination, research.  1920s Rohrbach flying boats had masts and sails.

1920's: the poor reliability of the engines & the vagaries of the weather means that wasn't such a ridiculous idea, because if forced down there was the possibility of sailing to safety, rather than relying on others to come & find you.

IIRC one of the USN's Curtiss flying boats had to sail over 200 miles to reach the Azores during their attempt to cross the Atlantic in 1919.

Wikipedia states that the purpose of the masts were to allow them to sail into port, or out of shipping lanes (and harms way) should they be forced down due to engine failure.
I have another porpoise in mind...

I went at the rivets with sanding sticks today.  It grieves me to remove such rivetty goodness, especially when moulded in classic Airfix silver plastic, but they had to go as the Academy parts are sans rivet.

Both upper and lower halves of the fuselage are in primer now.  More PSR needed though.

PSR.
Nearly done though.
I've scribed a door into one side of the Mustang fuselage and then added a cooling air outlet next to it on the top but offset to one side thus adding a small amount of asymmetry.
And i've built up some framing around the edges of the Beaufighter canopy.

PSR finished and interior parts painted.
I went to mask the passenger compartment windows today and pushed one of them into the hull.  D'oh!
Luckilly I haven't glued the top on yet so it was easilly reattached.

Looking at Dizzy's 262 based project has made me realise I need to add some spray deflector thingos to the nose in front of the cockpit.

Top and bottom halves of the fuselage joined today.
Started on the wings which need a touch of PSR.
