The closeups certainly highlight all of the flaws, I think it looks better in person.

Which flaws would those be then? I certainly don't notice any.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Fantastic stuff jalles

For the figures, did you use the F-82 crew, they look very familiar except it looks like you used a different head for the pilot

Ha, ha! Thanks guys.  It's funny, I think as it's my build I "see" all these little things that aren't quite right.  But I'm glad other people aren't as nit-picky as I am when I look at my work.   ;D

I know the one pilot with his head turned is from a Hasagawa accessories set.  The other guy I have no clue, maybe from an F-82 kit. It was in my spares/parts tub.  He did have a large protrusion on his back I had to hack off.

The guy looking to the left is from the Hasegawa US Pilots & Ground Crew set.  That's the one that comes with the crew van.
The same guy is taxiing my JASDF Lightning.

We all see the flaws others overlook because we have been concentrating so closely on building the things.  Put it away for a while, come back to it and you'll see completely different ones... ;D

I do like those crew figures
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I finally have the fuselage sealed up and the engine nacelles attached and PSRed.

There's some minor touchup (PSR) to do but I'm pretty happy with it.

Steel Penguin

looks good just like that .  its going to be an absolute stormer of a model when you finish.
the things you learn, give your mind the wings to fly, and the chains to hold yourself steady
take off and nuke the site form orbit, nope, time for the real thing, CAM and gridfire, call special circumstances.
wow, its like freefalling into the Geofront
