Apparently, there is a model show in Poynton this weekend. I only found out about it because I saw the direction signs up on lamp posts as I drove to work this afternoon. It's for all kinds of modelling, not just plastic models, details here: http://www.themodelshow.co.uk/

I shall pay a visit, probably tomorrow, and report back....

Well, the show is small but good, and I forgot my camera....

Mostly railways, but a nice selection of plastic models and RC boats and planes too. The Leisure Centre has a swimming pool, so twice a day the RC boat guys are doing demonstrations in there! Had a few good chats and recognised a couple of familiar faces from other model shows.

Bought a mint 1/72nd ZTS RWD-5bis (Polish Piper Cubish thing), a couple of Oxford diecast Bedford vans, one in BOAC colours and one Royal Navy, and a few tools.

'Twas a good morning.  <_<

Just took a virtual drive through there, looks like a nice little town. Enough pubs to keep one hydrated! ;D

Yeah it's a pretty decent little place. I've been going through it or to it for about 20 years now, since I've worked in two different places actually in Poynton, one in Macclesfield (through Poynton and keep going) and one in Woodford (turn right at Poynton).

This show is on again in 2018, but the dates have moved to Sept 15th and 16th. Apparently this gets the organisers more show space and facilities, which is good.

If you want to make a full day or even a weekend of it, the Avro Heritage Museum is just down the road one way: http://avroheritagemuseum.co.uk/

AND the Anson Engine Museum is just down the road the other way: http://www.enginemuseum.org/index.html (only open on Friday and Sunday)

I'd be more than happy to guide anyone to any of these places or provide any other help: this is my back yard.

Bump, since this is on at the weekend.

I originally intended to put a What If display on this year, but a combination of communication screw-ups and my personal priorities means that I had to cancel. I don't know exactly when I'll be going as a punter because, perversely, the better the weather is, the more other things I'll need to do. I'm tentatively thinking of going for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon, based on the weather reports.

Well it rained solidly all day so I spent about three hours at the show. It was good: rather more railway than last year, which meant the plastic model exhibitions were all in a separate room. Some of the railway displays were spectacular: an enormous 0-guage layout some 60ft long and a magnificent American mountain railway in particular. There was also a splendid diorama called Century Road, which had an array of vehicles that changed gradually from 1900 to 2000, complete with changing shop fronts in the background. There was also a 1/100th scale Bismark made entirely out of brass, and a 1/144th USN aircraft carrier, complete with some carved wooden planes, that was up for sale.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Lot of effort to transport on of those big layouts.  Not to mention the set up and take down time.

Got any more pics of the green beach buggy at the top of the easter egg plane photo?

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

The O-guage one (2nd pic) is 60-odd feet long. If I understood correctly, different members of the club built and keep different parts and they coordinate to bring it all together at a show. I'm not sure if it can be assembled in different ways: I didn't see any obvious signs of 'modularity compromises' but maybe...

Sorry, I didn't get a specific pic of the beach buggy.

By the way folks, those French village dioramas (5th pic) were built brick-by-brick and slate by slate, with the guy moulding all his own 1/35th scale bricks and slates (he boxes of unused ones on show).... :o

I've only just noticed this, but the Poynton Show is on again this weekend. I'll probably go along tomorrow.

Okay, been struggling to edit and upload the pics, but it's all worked now so they'll be along shortly. I think I'll put them up as lots of small posts rather than a few big ones.

The show was okay, but it seemed a bit thin compared to last year. Reading the program, it seems that they had a lot of last-minute cancellations for various reasons, so it's not really the organisers' fault. The main hall was railways, models ships and traders, and trucks (which I didn't photograph), wargaming and plastic models all had their own rooms.

There were two railway layouts that also featured aircraft. The first was of a French railway scene, to which he'd added a Mystere IVB from a unit that would have been based locally at the period:

The other one was rather 'eccentric' to say the least, but they seemed to be having fun. The Harrier is an old Dinky toy, but I don't know where the Avro 707 came from. It didn't look like a limited run kit, because it had painted-on canopy glazing and moulded in wheels like a die-cast. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to chat with them to find out about it:
