This was hugely impressive: a World War One light railway setup in 1/35th scale, which meant, because that's not a railway modelling scale, that they had to scratchbuild all the rolling stock on modified model railway chassis. The lady on the right is the owner's wife, and, far from being 'dragged along', she's every bit as enthusiastic about it as he is, knows all the history and technicalities and gave me and several others an excellent talk on it all:

Another unusual layout represented the Royal Gunpowder Mills at Waltham Abbey, Essex. The guy who built this used to work there: the buildings are accurate, but he's re-arranged them into a line to make a practical railway layout:

This was just gobsmaking. A 1/100th scale Bismark, made from CAD-produced etched nickel silver. Can you imagine even starting a project like this?

I certainly couldn't imagine finishing it

No seriously, as you say it's absolutely gobsmaking.   You can see a t.v. series here somewhere ?

Cheers for the pics mate
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That Waltham Abbey layout is very good, I've been round the actual place and recognise those buildings. As you say they are not in that line up but still are well done.

The building with the small tower is a mill used for grinding gunpowder and on our tour we were shown the mill wheel.

It's a real shame that the Big Bismark is going to be painted.

It's a real shame that the Big Bismark is going to be painted.

I think some US shows now have a category for unpainted scratchbuilds?

There's certainly someone who exhibits his 1/35 scratchbuilds unpainted, I remember seeing his Marder II on the cover of FSM back in the 90s maybe?

There were only a few plastic modelling tables, but there was some nice stuff on them. Who says you never see a Nimrod kit built up, eh?

This N-gauge layout showed one advantage of the small scale: massive trains!

This T-shaped layout had some really nice detail. I particularly liked the curved street: with a suitable sky backdrop, that photo would have looked greeat!

That Bermuda Road layout is tremendous. What scale is it H ?

The Great Model Railway Challenge is back on the telly by the way

Pah, that's nothing!

On my N Gauge American layout we always close the running session with 'The Long Freight', which uses almost every box car, tanker, flat and spine car we have, and the caboose runs about 1/2" in front of the lead loco as it goes all the way round the entire layout.  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

HO/OO I think.

To be honest, the trains themselves don't interest me half as much as the diorama and scenic work.
