All is well

Received "British Warships & Auxiliaries 2018/19" yesterday which is my Annual as I have all editions back to the first in 1979. The publishers went bust last year so I thought its days were over but the operation has been bought out and the booklet has been published  ;D

Just arrived in the mail:

-British Secret Projects: Vol.2: Jet Bombers since 1949 by Tony Butler
on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

'Acthung Schweinehund' by Harry Pearson, subtitled 'A Boy's Own Story of Imaginary Combat'.

The book's a humorous and nostalgic look at the author's life as a wargamer and model maker. Since he was born in 1961, I suspect it's an account that many if not most of us will identify with... ;D

Mine too.

"Achtung! Spitfire!" and "Die Englander pig".

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

"Achtung! Spitfire!" and "Die Englander pig".

Shouldn't that be 'Der'?

'Die' is feminine IIRC.

Perhaps 'Die Englander pigS' as it's also the plural article, or something like that.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

No, it was a mish-mash of English and German - 'Die' and 'Pig' in English, and 'Englander' in German... as a Spitfire-mad pre-teen, I didn't know any different...

i managed to track down a Naval Ship Society book by George Moore called 'Building for Victory' which covers the Admiralty building programme during the war including the proposed and cancelled types. An expensive but handy reference.

Dogs of War by Adrian Tchaikovsky

Interesting idea, covers genetically engineered creatures bred as weapons.  The main character is a dog/human/monster hybrid kind of thing and a good part of the book is written in the first person from the creatures limited point of view.

I've only read the first chapter as a taster, I got it as a holiday read.  I still had half of the Malazan Book of the Fallen Book 4: House of Chains to get through that I'd postponed due to studying and that's taken some serious slogging.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

From Smiths another of Fly Past's bookazines.

RAF Bombers a Centenary Celebration - Every front line type from the DH9a to the F-35.

Some fascinating photographs of the inter-war types and on page 1 I learn that the National Aircraft Factory No 1 (where the built DH4's) was in Waddon, Croydon. Which explains why the area had a long association through to the late 50's with the aircraft industry.

Great value at £5.99 (I had a coupon so £4.99 ) recommended.

And also from Smiths and also bookazines:

Luftwaffe - Secret Bombers of the Third Reich
Luftwaffe - Secret Wings of the Third Reich (mostly tailless/delta projects)

Both of these mostly re-print the original drawings and plans rather than the the tidied-up and re-drawn ones seen in other books.

I regularly look out for these bookazines in Smiths nowadays, the publishers seem to quite prolific. They are particularly handy for train journeys
