What you lot are forgetting is that ; trainers, plimsoles, sandals, boots and wellingtons are not SHOES. At least not South of the River anyway

Why not?

And I come from 'South of the River' myself, but I didn't stay there of course.

So today I went shopping and bought a great many things, including:

a) no books
b) no shoes

I'm calling this a score-draw, although saying that out loud drew a bitter laugh from the general direction of my credit card, which has been getting quite the workout.

I've come to the conclusion that the shoes I actually want are the very expensive ones that will hopefully last long enough to prevent me from going through this rigmaroll again for a very long time. That means waiting for another paycheck or two.

Because they have their own specific names and in the main are designed with different purposes in mind.

So if having a specific name excludes footwear from being categorised as 'shoes', where does that leave loafers, brogues, brothel-creepers and winkle-pickers then?  ;D  ;)

A gentleman's footwear should perhaps include :-
1 pair black shoes
1 pair brown shoes
1 pair walking boots
1 pair wellies
1 pair comfortable slippers for indoor use
1 other item of footwear, perhaps suede desert boots or football boots or golf shoes or trainers or..........

Any objections to this proposal?

the current "tidy" pair of steel toed boots  ( good enough to get married in )  <_<
the slightly older pair " "  for using when they may get dirty / damaged
the even older pair, for gardening / when they will get messy / more damaged.   :o

a pair of nike Frees for doing tai chi in  ( I can and have done it in a pair of the above, but the venue wasn't to happy regarding the risk of making the floor)
a pair of old steel toed trainers for when none of the above work.

shoes are there to stop my feet from unravelling up to my knees

They are types of shoes. Simple  ;) Like DM's, ankle and Wellingtons are types of boot

1 pair Ugg Boots and 1 pair thongs (flip flops or jandals depending on your nationality).  Does any man need more footwear than that?

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

But trainers, plimsoles and sandals are also types of shoes....

I object to the last item: what if you ride motorbikes AND play football, or do athletics AND tap dancing?

Also, 1 pair of beach shoes.

Uggies, definitely for those cooler winter evenings.   I pair of sandals for everyday use (socks are optional but generally frowned upon, downunder).   I also have 1 pair of boots and 2 pairs of runners - one "run in" so to speak and one being "run in".

Since I appear to have inadvertently started The War Of The Shoes (2018-?), I feel morally obliged to resolve, or at least contain the situation. I have therefore started a new thread for all your footwear-related disputes: http://www.whatifmodellers.com/index.php/topic,45036.0.html

You're welcome. ;)
