Just bought on ebay:

Revell Spitfire Vb New Tool

From the only photo I've seen, it looks to be a modification of their IIa, which doesn't inspire confidence as it needs too many small bits replaced although the shape is pretty much bang on the money.

Hmm.  Offhand, the windscreen needs replacing... That step - Christ, it's so obvious it hurts my eyes!  And as such, with that level of wrongness, I just have to start looking for other flaws, and boy, do they stack up!

The oil cooler is the wrong shape for a V so that needs replacing, the wheels are suspect and somewhat agricultural, the radiator is just wrong, the prop looks to be a De Havilland when it should be a Rotol, and the u/c doors have the leg - which itself is plain and lacks any detail - proud when it should be semi recessed and they're too wide anyway. Finally and for Cliff's sake, WHY have we got the same decal option that Airfix were using for 30+ years?  I could be really, really picky and attack a few other things about the build too, but I'm not quite that bitter.

I'm lucky in that I have a copious spares box with everything that I need to fix it but my point is that I SHOULDN'T have to do this!  2018 and we're STILL getting Spitfires wrong?  I suppose it could be worse - it could be the Italeri one - but for the few quid extra you need to fix it, you can get an AZ/KPM Spitfire Vb that doesn't have the issues that the Revell one does.

This, like their IIa, is a massive disappointment and a wasted opportunity.  Yes, the shape is bang on and the level of detail in the cockpit is superb, but the niggly errors all add up.

A swap done with one of the guys on Britmodeller has netted me an AZ Spitfire F.XIVe lowback in exchange for an AZ Bf 109G-6 that I was unlikely to build.

This has arrived and it came complete with a load of spares left from a Sword XIVe lowback - including a highback fuselage.  Result!

Some Eduard PE seatbelts

Brass or the "new" steel ones ?

Steel.  They were cheaper and you get more.  I am trying them out to see how I get on with them instead of tape.
I was impressed by the belts that came with the Northrop N3 and though i'd give them a go.

Right I've not used the steel ones yet. Tend to use the brass ones on my real world builds when the cockpits open
