Had a major pig-out at Hannants when I realised they still had some of the Glencoe space models in stock, and at actually reasonable prices too:

Glencoe 1/72nd Von Braun Retriever Rocket (seen as a Moon Rocket in this old Disney documentary:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZd9jLzvq4Y)

Glencoe 1/144th Mars Liner (this used to be a 'Moon Rocket' too!)

Fly 1/72nd Avrocar Racer X (Artillery Models livery)

Trumpeter 1/72nd Chinese Jiaolong Manned Minisub (if you fancy this, don't let the 'pre-painted' tag put you off: it isn't, it's just molded in various different shades of plastic)

Peewit 1/72nd canopy masks for the Mil Mi-4/Harbin Z-5

Model Decal sheet 89: 1/72nd RAF Phantom special schemes, RAF Chinook & Sea King in the Falklands, RAF Puma in Belize, and Belgian F-16A special scheme.

Also got some Lego off Ebay, for making jigs to hold models still while they dry.

The Retriever Rocket, was originally the RM-1 Lunar Reconnaissance Craft.
Don't know where the other name came from.

The name change came with the Glencoe re-release: maybe they had the rights to the kit, but didn't have the rights to use Disney's name the way Strombecker did on the original? There's no mention of Disney or their TV shows in the instruction sheet blurb. It might be a situation analogous to the one Revell found itself in when they re-issues their Calypso kit but then found they didn't have the rights to use any of Cousteau's IP. At least Glencoe picked another craft from Von Braun's writings and didn't just make it a sci-fi 'space fighter'....

The Mars Liner probably suffered even more from this: it was originally designed by Disney as a moon rocket, only 'inspired' by Von Braun, and was built as a 1/2-scale replica for their Tomorrowland exhibition in Anaheim. It was also originally in TWA colours. If Disney/TWA wouldn't licence the IP or, more likely, they wanted an arm and a leg for it, then Glencoe had to rebrand it. Of course the TWA livery is as obsolete now as the Pan Am one on the 2001 Clipper, but a) people still own the rights to old 'defunct' company names and b) Glencoe have had nice artwork and a 'period' poster made for their version now.

Although these two name changes are likely to be trademark issues, another factor in the re-naming of old space kits is 'mission inflation'. Once the world's seen what a real moon mission looks like, no kid is going to buy an 'old hat' V-2-like thing landing on it's fins, so it gets upgraded to a 'Mars Ship' or even an 'Interpanetary Ship' or 'space fighter'. Fantastic Plastic is a great resource for finding out about these things.

Oddly enough, SpaceX's recent progress with reusable powered-landing boosters has now made things like the Mars Liner look less anachronistic than they did even a decade ago. I still don't fancy doing a Falcon-9-style suicide burn with a manned craft, on an unprepared surface, carrying enough fuel to get back into orbit though... :o

Ain't been buyin kits  (well, aside from a couple) for months now but since my business has entered into the "growing season" were I have more money coming in I can get back to creating a huge stash that my relatives will put on eBay in 2075.

To that end:

Sorry about the flash... but.. I think they can still be made out. Good ol' F-102 and a Cutlass.... Double Mustang, etc. Cool stuff! Ol' boy wasn't asking the moon for these, either, so I picked them up for a song. The Cutlass is neato!  ;D

Another box showed up today but I'll open it later... probably Sunday or something.

The real boat was 36' long, how long is the kit?

A rather interesting and nice collection of kits to add to the stand and all with lots of What-if potential

10-7/8"

I'd love to grab one or more of those F-102. The Cutlass would be a great candidate for a scale-o-rama into a V-bomber type

There was Mirage 2000 project with twin RB.199s iirc, but I've never seen pics.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Yeah buddy. I already have plans for the F-15. It's going to be in the Cold War GB done up as a USN Navy fighter jet, complete with assignment to ... whatever aircraft carrier it is that I have on the transfers.

Nick

I decided I wasn't going to buy anything at Southern Expo today, so I bought 3 kits.
They were all in a very cheap under table sale.  All in 1/72 of course.

Hasegawa F-20 Tigershark. Not decided yet but plenty of options.

HobbyBoss HH-60J - US Coast Guard.  Long term I plan to do this as a UK Coast Guard bird instead of the S-92.

Revell Eurocopter EC145 - French Gendarmerie or German Police. This is what the Met Police fly over London, currently based at North Weald for the next 25 years.
I have no plans and will sell this on, it was just part of the bundle.

Finally opened the box I got the other day and a couple more arrived this morning as well.

First off, these two:

That's my 3rd D.XXIII kit but my first VG 33.  I was really only looking at the Fokker but they were both being sold together. I offered $17 and they accepted it. Another $7 for shipping.. a LIL bit pricey but I want all the D.23s I can get. The VG 33 is a very nice tag along, though! I have no clue about the kit itself but I know I don't have a VG 33 in my stash so this is pretty sweet.

Then I got this... I've been looking for this for awhile! Could never find one OR not for the price I wanted. I'm not "shelling out" for it, no matter how unique or chintzy it is.  ;D This one is really nice, though.. all sealed up and no damage or anything. Another "best offer" and again, I got if for $17 but another 10 in shipping. $3 higher and I was out.

:o

And now, this junk lot of airliner stuff. And... one random 1/48 Cessna 150 I think it is... (with no glass or wings).  ;D

I've figured out most of it.... there were even a couple complete kits in there. A 1/320 scale Matchbox DC-10 and a 1/200 Hasegawa Boeing 727 (love it!! I'll take a 727 in any scale).  I'm actually thinking of taking the DC-10 and turning it into a very strange Attacker, scale - o ramad to 1/72.

Some of the rest are two 1/200 scale 747 fuselage halves. Just so happens I have everything for a C-5 Galaxy BUT the fuselage and tailplanes so I might slap all that onto it. I'll need tailplanes but some random ones came with this lot. There's also what I think is a 1/144 scale 727 but I'm just not sure:

The middle engine intake isn't molded into the fuselage and there seems to be no exhaust for it, either, but the rest sure looks like a 727. I looked around the net for pictures and just couldn't figure it out. There's a hole in the fin where the intake would be and also the stairs at the aft of the fuselage.

Also got this that appears to at least be the truck with stairs on the back but it looks like there's more to it than that:

I didn't bother measuring it or doing anything to try to figure out what it is because it's not as easy as figure out the planes. I wouldn't even know what search terms to use to even get the specs.

Then, there are two sets of this stuff... everything but the fuselage. I thought I had it figured out for a while but now I'm not sure at all.

Someone here probably knows! Either way, the "size" of it is right so I might use one set and turn that 1/144 727 into some weird 4 engined T-tail airliner.  ;D

So, that's my latest stuff... there's still more on the way before I'm all done with kit budget for the month and they should be here next week.  <_<

Pretty convinced that's a DC-9, but I'm not the expert (you want Kit for that!). The down-sloped nose is distinctive, and they have a small intake (APU? Air con?) on the leading edge of the fin, which would account for the hole.
