1/72nd MiG 37B Ferret E (the totally fictitious Soviet stealth fighter)

Just because no one has reported a sighting of it, how can you be sure it is fictitious!

I'm fairly sure that if it was real, Rosboronexport would have been desperately trying to flog it to everyone in the world by 1997...

A Kopro MiG-21MF. Curious how the updated molds compare with the original ones - and I have an idea for a whiffy livery.  ;D

En route to me;

1 x Revell 1/35 German GTK Boxer sgSanKfz (RV 03241)*
1 x DEF Model 1/35 GTK Boxer (GTFz) Sagged Wheels Set for Revell kit #03093/03241 (8 wheels) (DEF-DW35028)
1 x Kitty Hawk 1/48 Sepecat Jaguar GR.1 / GR.3 (KH80106)

* This kit is done with the MedEvac unit as a detachable module (like the real thing), so I may try my hand at resin casting to copy the base to create my own modules ... When, & if, I ever get around to building it. :-\

I don't like counting chickens before they're on my dinner plate, but I finally got my hands on a 1/144 F-8 Crusader double kit from Platz.  It was a hard-fought battle on Yahoo! Japan Auctions (made harder by having to use a middle-man like Buyee.com with their service charge), but I paid way too much and prevailed.  I actually gave up the battle for one the other night because I knew there was one more on offer, but I ended up paying about the same.

I'm happy because you don't see them around much and I have a project planned for these two.

Now if only I could find a decently priced 1/144 DC-10... or a A-4E... or... a couple of KFIRs...
Thanks!

I can't imagine why DC10 kits should be so expensive, they're as common as muck in these parts, almost every trader has them in dozens. Mind you, both the Revell and Airfix kits leave something to be desired in the accuracy department.

They're pretty difficult to find in the States for a reasonable price. For example, the cheapest one on eBay US right now is going for $50.

Lots of other places have them listed but are "out of stock" or about the same price. Have to be on your toes to catch one cheap. That's why I bent over backwards to get ahold of the one I did with that Tristar and the other kits for $45. It's hard to find a single kit at that price, let alone 6!

That's not to say they can't be found for cheap (I certainly did) but they either go quick, are far and few between, or start reasonable and go way up in an auction setting.

When I get home, this Friday, I'll take a look in The Loft and see if I have one going spare.

If the postage makes sense we can 'enter into a negotiating posture' perhaps?  ;D

That would be spectacular. I'm not the commercial jet aficionado that Brad is, but I'm looking for one to recreate an iconic scene from early in the Area 88 manga.  There's a bomb on the underside of the DC-10 (at least I THINK that's a DC-10-30) and Shin and Micky pilot their KFIR's upside down and shoot it off.  Needless to say, I'm not a stickler for accuracy... and I don't need any decals...

While I'm at it, the F-4E's are for another scene project from the second chapter where Shin and Boris fly with their wings folded to by pass "The Fang" an electrified anti-aircraft barrier (don't ask me why they didn't just fly over it... even my 14 year-old-brain wondered about that the first time I read it, but hey, it looks cool!)

Thanks!

Why do the Area 88 Kfirs have the huge recognition triangles used by IAF in the Yom Kippur war...? The other Area 88 planes don't see to have them either and OPFOR even flies MiG's, not Mirages or derivative thereof...

TheChronicOne

Greg, be very careful!! If you're like I am, you'll suddenly find yourself utterly infatuated with the things and lose many hours and dollars.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've had a tremendous ton of fun with it all and most of what I've done is learning as much as possible with research and articles and collecting kits at a rapid rate. I've recently put a stop to most of that, as I am out of room to store them. Building them only scratches the surface, as ironic as that sounds. I've definitely been enjoying building the two I've worked on but the rest is just as fun and thankfully so because there's always more time to read than build.

With that said, I managed one final chunk of kits purchases and plan to post them here today. Not all are airliners, but most are....  ;D ;D   One seems to be a pretty massive clunker but uhhh.. oh well.  ;D

Yes, the -10 looks like a late model -10-30. The early ones had the odd 'finned' engine exhausts and the -10-40s had a bulged intake on the '#2 engine, rather like an MD-11.

Where was the bomb hung on the -10 though? I it was on the centreline under the wing it would have been in the way of the centre landing gear leg, which would make it a -10-10 with the updated engines.

The KFIRs only show up after the Wolfpack (rival mercenary force) destroys most of the planes on the Area 88 runway.  HQ then allocates 10 KFIRs to the base as emergency replacements - which Saki then hand picks the pilots for.  It doesn't say WHERE the KFIRs come from, but I believe elsewhere it does mention that Israel and the Kingdom of Asran are on friendly terms (I'll have to check on that one though).

I also recognize the slippery slope that Brad seems to have gone sliding gleefully down with the passenger jet liners.  As fun as it sounds, I currently have a very limited amount of room both for storage and for displaying so I'm trying to stay away from becoming infatuated.  That's part of the reason I recently started to focus on creating 1/144 scale Area 88 diorama presentations.  There's simply no way I could do it in 1/72.  After figuring out that size doesn't matter (that's what she said!) I'm quite happy trying to squeeze as much reality out of the wee little kits as possible.  For the jet liners, I've only got two in my sights.  The aforementioned DC-10 for the "Upside Down Marksman" project and a 747-400 for "A Close Encounter" based on Shin's first accidental meeting with his former employer, Yamato Airlines, on dark and stormy night over the Mediterranean.

Thanks!
