First comment:
I did not know that Revel had done a new moulding of the FAU-4, and I was slightlly worried that it would be a re-pop of the Italeri abomination.
It is not, but is a rather lovely new moulding.

The Skyvan, is not a Skyvan but is in fact for a Skyliner, which was the Skyvan fitted out for passenger use. Unfortunately the kit provides only three bladed props, or five bladed props, whereas the Skyliner had four bladed props! as sshown on the box art.
It is also a rather tiny little model.
However this version does give both British Airwaays Highlands and Islands division markings which for me is fantastic.
British Airways had two of these wee beasties for the island services when I was a trainee controller at Glasgow airport way back in the 1970's.
They would, very correctly, call up for egine start on stand.
Then, when most aircraft would request push-back they would, using their reverse thrust capability, would request " Taxi backwards and forwards".
A rather unique situation for an ATCO to be in. I loved it!

That's interesting Jim, the Air Canada Dash 8-100's/200's when they are at the gate at YYC don't call for a push back either, but they just turn themselves around from the gate when they call in for taxi.

Wow - those are a surprisingly reasonable price!

When I worked at Woodford, I went through a phase of going over to Chester to help out at the Hawker-Raytheon site. They had a little rack of special-to-type Japanese U-125 parts that only got depleted about once a year...

That would be seriously over floated.  Empty the 196 weighs twice as much as the Gladiator.  Even allowing for the weight of the floats they would be larger than required.
However, if they look right then they are right...

Bought it for donor parts for something that has been trudging around the grey matter

Nice, especially the Kfir.

I thought so too but there's a Portuguese modeller on facebook who had to say that the kit is crap...
I bought it cause it cost me 20€(Xmas special price) at my LHS and i thought it was a fair price to pay for what i want it for.
It was, at least, 10€ cheaper than the cheapest one i could find on the web. It was even cheaper compared to almost 60€ for any of the modern kits i found.
Before i bought this one, i looked it up on Scalemates, read a few reviews of the kit and was well aware of the fact that it is an old Esci mold, that it has raised panel lines and poor detail compared to modern kits like the AMK or Kinetic.
I do my research before i spend my money on kits and then decide if the price/quality ratio is acceptable for my wallet or not so, if i really want the best kit available, then i'll just have to pay the price. If that's not the case, i'll just buy the cheaper kit.

I've seen and heard the same thing about certain kits over the years and then turned around and built them and they turned out just fine. Detail aside, unless you have sticks of butter for hands and use things like a broom to paint with and glue your entire kit together with glue sticks and PVA then old kits are just fine. I'm biased, though, because I love saving money.    Old crappy kits are great for this.
