Ace Alvis Stalwart Mk 2

I built this whilst waiting for the paint to dry on the Tempest FGR.1. Not a bad kit to build and loads better than the offerings of old from Ace. Lots of fiddly bits to be had, including P.E windscreen wipers (eeeek!!) This will belong to the Honduras marines, just need to paint some luggage up for it and put it in the back and its all done.

It is in 1/72nd scale Kit, nice to build too I can certainly recommend it.

It had to be made grubby as it is a much used and loved piece of kit belonging to the Honduras marines, so it spends a lot of it's time in mud. I need to dig some boxes and packs out to shove in the back too

Ahah, thanks Geoff.

It would fit better for me as I want it as a towtruck/boat for my Monterey flying boat.

Mind you, my S&M one only cost £10 at Telford.

The S&M kit is available as both MkI & Mk2.While the Ace kit is by far better detailed it does have one great failing, as far as I am concerned. While the S&M kit has a very nice way of providing the clear windows, the Ace kit does not. It gives you a sheet of clear Acetate with the pattern for the windows printed on it. So you have to cut out the windows, VERY carefully, and use a suitable glue to put them in place.
Also you can not cross kit as they are not the same scale, 1/72 Vs 1/76.

I paid 8 dollars 87 cents for mine, from the Ukraine. Including postage 15 dollars. The acetate windows are awkward, but not as bad as the ones supplied with the Revell fennec. It goes well with the rest of my European/ British armour I have serving with my Honduras army.

The other thing is that the mud looks the right colour as well. Having been to that part of the world a lot of the soil is a very rich "red" colour.  Presumably a lot of iron in the soil ?

I will have to look that one up Chris, I did it this shade as I anted the mud to be clay based, and that stuff is a nightmare to wash off, and my weathering solution dries on quite similar to clay mud. I made it from pastel chalks, water and washing up liquid. It even smells earthy.

You are (as usual) perfectly correct Chris.   It's a high iron/bauxite  "LATERITE" soil. See below for  the  results of a few seconds of diligent research.
