Looking for a WW2 aircraft, likely a prototype.

Hey boys,

It's been forever since I posted here, and I'm in a bit of a conundrum. Buddy and I are trying to figure out the aircraft based on design principles. We're quite sure it's an Allied bird, 30's or 40s. Here's the rundown of the parts we've got.

Fighter
Twin-Boomed Twin-Engine.
Constant-chord wing that runs straight across.
Cockpit sits mostly rearward of the wing, nose barely crosses the leading edge.

In the back of my head it looks a lot like the Lightning, but with the whole cockpit and nose shoved back a good few feet, or something damn close to it.

Appreciate any help you guys might have for us.

Sounds like this one, there was another version of it with a longer nose.

I've also seen something that sounds like a variant on the Rutan design, but it was one of a series of wild mutations on the P-38 - maybe even on this here site?

Similar configuration as Hughes XF-11: Northrop F-15 Reporter, later RF-61, based on Northrop P-61 Black Widow

..... but the short nose version of Grumman Skyrocket still sounds like the best match for the cockpit and nose location.

Yeah.. I figured if anybody was likely to know a plane that obscure it'd be you guys here.

Looks like no direct winners, but he was also looking more for proof of concept, so it works out.

Wings and booms description make it sound like a Bronco. Nose and fuselage doesn't match though.
