With the Convair SeaDart entering service, Britain desired to field a supersonic sea based fighter.  It was thought that basing the aircraft on an existing design would shorten development time....

SeaDart for inspiration.

Perhaps you can see where this is going....

I'm late to the game- clear the decks!  1/72 Victims are the ancient Frog F.6 and the Airfix F.2

Cool.  How does Frog match up against new Airfix?

WHAAAAT?  :o :o There's NO comparison, the only thing they have in common is the name.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Yeah, I figured Frog would put the new stuff to shame...

The Frog actually goes together well, but I just started chopping it up. It is a typical older kit, but very buildable. The new Airfix is superb, very crisp, goes together very well, great small panel lines, tons of detail, solid. Guess the analogy of an inexpensive 1960's car and a modern one...

Thanks for the encouragement guys, its going to be a tough one....

Turning the belly fuel tank into the ski well.

Frog engines cut.  Will supply the outer shell for the side by side engines. Belly tank cut and has a nice ski shape to it!

Ski well and lower keel detail.

She's getting fatter.

Very rough fit up.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That's looking good even at this stage, as Chris said.

That FROG kit, the one moulded in dark blue styrene, was a later mould after they'd popped some from the Hasegawa moulds under licence, but the later ones were worse! Mainly because the plastic was immensely thick, a bit like the Sea Vixen, and any Whiffowrk needs a bandsaw and cold chisel!  :o

So respect for doing the 'cutting and shutting' with the FROG bits.

bold move  !

any aircraft can be improved by fitting floats, or a hull, or (water)skis
