UK: 'cup' = any opaque drinking vessel smaller than a 'mug'
US: 'cup' = precisely defined unit of measure for cooking purposes = 236ml

What a stupid size for a 'standard'!  :o

Even US gallons are different to UK gallons, always a problem where the hydraulics world, which works in US gallons exclusively, meets the UK industrial world.

In steel we dealt in Tonnes, Tons and then "over there" they did US Tons - all good fun  ;D

Surely that's down to the size of what you are putting into it?
If it's too large for a cup then put it in a box...

Oh it's way more fun than that: do you want a 'legal cup' or a 'customary cup'?

Legal cup

The cup currently used in the United States for nutrition labelling is defined in United States law as 240ml.

1 U.S. "legal" cup     =    240 millilitres
                             =    16 international tablespoons
                             =    12 Australian tablespoons
                             ≈    8.12    U.S. customary fluid ounces
                             ≈    8.45    imperial fluid ounces

Customary cup

In the United States, the customary cup is half of a liquid pint.

1 U.S. customary cup     =    1⁄16    U.S. customary gallon
                                    =    1⁄4 U.S. customary quart
                                    =    1⁄2 U.S. customary pint
                                    =    8 U.S. customary fluid ounces
                                    =    16 U.S. customary tablespoons
                                    =    48 U.S. customary teaspoons
                                    ≡    236.5882365 millilitres exactly
                                    ≈    152⁄3 international tablespoons
                                    ≈    11.75 Australian tablespoons
                                    ≈    0.833 imperial cups
                                    ≈    8.33    imperial fluid ounces

Jeepers, how complicated can it get?  :banghead:

And it occurs to me that US pints must be smaller than UK pints too. That is if 8 of their pints still equals a gallon.......

You are (as usual) correct!!

USA 16 fluid ounces to the pint, UK 20 fluid ounces to the pint.   So a gallon US is 1.6 pints short of an Imperial Statute gallon .

No it hasn't - real world lunacy has given unto me much more 40k ork lunacy in the form of Mad Juzzy the Flutists Bounty.

Yes, that IS a Snakebit Warlord on Cyboar from late 1st/early 2nd ed. Yes, that IS the figure you all wanted when you were 13, even if you did not realise it. And he has friends. Click the link!

Various answers are possible, from  WHY NOT? via  COS IT'S ACTUALLY A CYSOW  and IT'S A TROPHY OF PLUNDER  to IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME.  It might even have head butted something and the air bags have inflated......even Orks have health and safety concerns.  At the risk of reintroducing thread drift, anyone got any other suggestions?

That's the boar's engine. The angle here is not great, but the whole boar is mechanised.
