1/72nd scale Ark Royal model

DO try and pay attention H, it's been mentioned in the Model Engineer's Show thread. 

But it bears repeating as it's SO good!

Looks like a lot of work has gone into it.  Hopefully he gets to dominate his local model boat lake with it.

The one and only time I was in the Smithsonian Museum the US Navy section had exactly that by the entrance to their full size dummy carrier hangar deck.

OK, so maybe the reactor didn't really work but it glowed a bit through its 'see thru' walls. The model's deck was AWASH with F-14s, they must have denuded every model shop in the DC area of 1/72 scale Tomcats.

When I visited the Palm Springs Air Museum a couple of years ago, I was really impressed with the model displayed there. And there was a couple of 1/72 aircraft carriers too, complete with aircraft.

This was one of them.

I must admit to a weakness for the original.  So the NCC1701.

The answer is no before anyone suggests it, I'm not going to try and do a 72nd carrier. This one looks superb and nice to see a fully detailed air wing on deck, but these sort of models really belong in a museum where they can be appreciated.

There's a model of one of the Japanese carriers in the Pearl Harbour Museum. Not 1/72 but not much smaller. Very impressive and I have a photo somewhere

There's a pair of large 1/72 aircraft carrier models at Yeovilton. One is the SS Empire MacAlpine and I think the other is HMS Bulwark. She's certainly a WW2 ship and was built by the apprentices at the shipyard.

For display at shows all you'd really need would be the deck painted on a roll of canvas and a cardboard cutout* superstructure.
Roll out the deck along some tables, sit the superstructure on it and then set out the air wing, crew, tractors and the jumbo crane.
No doubt this is in no way an original idea and is already done by a carrier or naval air wing SIG.

*OK, a properly detailed and scaled scratchbuilt scale replica,  but you get my drift.
