The MG Rover X80 or MG SV XPower same car could have saved the Rover Group

Did we need more modern cars with electronic gadgets and engine steering ?  I am so glad to drive a pure simple constructed dinosaur like this ... And till today i will never understand how the production was ever stopped in 2015 .  There is nothing worldwide that compare to a Classic Land Rover .You cannot view this attachment.
It's a Land Rover, NOT a Jeep . Like a Jeep, but for gentlemen.

Pellson already mentioned it on page 2, but the Ineos Grenadier is replacing it.  Proves you can only replace a Land Rover with a Land Rover.

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

I have read through this thread, and cannot see any mention of those illustrious BL Austin products the Maxi or Allegro...

I will get my coat!

The Maxi has always been grossly underrated. OK, it's hardly a styling masterpiece, mainly because the money men insisted on using the same doors as the ADO17 (1800) series, and doors are expensive, but it was a very practical car, and HUGE inside. You really could fold the backseatbacks down flat, and flatten the front seats and use it as a double bed. My first wife and I did just that with one of the early prototypes as an official 'evaluation' for a couple of nights over a weekend.

The original cable operated gearbox was a DISASTER, but the later rod operated Mk II was much better and with the 1750 cc engine made quite a rapid car for its time.

One thing you DON'T want to do is get one of the very first 500 production Mk 1s, they have a built in fault which could result in either or BOTH front wheels coming off................:(

Luckily there's little chance of them existing by now though.

Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

My first new car, a present to myself after the end of my first marriage, was a Metro GTA,, Not overly quick, but the fat tyres made it stick to the road and it was great fun to drive

Have a proper look-through on the Grenadier component supplier list, and you'll find that they're buying the best stuff there is and putting it in a shell that's not only designed to look a bit like our beloved old Defender, but that also corrects the most annoying faults of the old design.
- 2nd row doors are now wide enough to let someone larger than a midget in. Unsurprisingly, they also kindly moved the 2nd row seats back enough for larger persons to sit..
- normal people can now sit and drive the car without having to neither amputate their legs nor door-side arm. Yes, I'm aware you can rebuild the seat position or open the window, (I have moved the seats on both my Defenders) but it will be nice with someone having done that already
- rear safari door previously measured less than 3ft across - on an almost 5 ft wide car! The grenadier replaces that with two doors, covering the entire rear.
- a functional climate system!!
- the ridiculous A-frame an ball joint solution to keep the rear axle where it's supposed to be has been replaced by such a groundbreaking innovation as a Panhard rod! Can you believe it!
- The drive trains, as the factory supply them, will actually permit an acceleration that will overtake Sir Sebastian (Coe).

And the list goes on and on..

While I love my two Defenders, and most likely never will be able to afford to buy a Grenadier, I suspect that if I did replace them with a Grenadier, I won't need two to have one car (mostly) operational.

I passed my driving test in a mini metro, my stepfather had the Wolsey Six, the next door neighbour had a Morris Minera, and on the other side but one had the maxi. The bank manager had a rover p6 but there was a lot of head scratching when he got the rover SD1.
It was part of my culture growing up and seeing men tinkering on a Sunday with cars with the British Leyland badges on them, this kinda stopped when the Nissan Blue Bird arrived on British roads.

My most sincere apologies. Let's return to the imaginative world and praise the quality of Jeep interiors..  ;)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
