Matchbox catalogue back in 1989 already stated that model making is an art form in its own right, and that's good enough for me

A sure way to get JMN's all riled up is to compare building the kit exactly as per instructions to a colouring book, whereas whiffing requires actual creativity. Still, even painting still lifes or from a picture has been considered art for a long time, portraits of course so why not modelling, even when going full JMN? All the components are there nevertheless: artistic vision (even striving for 130% accuracy is a vision), required skill, the desire to convey a message with your work.

Is there any creativity in slavishly copying real life?
Is a photo realistic portrait less art than a Sidney Nolan?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

If this goes on much longer I'll start to be persuaded that pre-shading is 'art'............  :o

Er, no, perhaps not.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

My answer to that is "No!"

The ability to recreate a scene, a face, an aircraft, ship or tank in minute detail on canvas, in bronze or stone, or from a model kit is as much "art" as what we, as whiffers do.

Our style is just a bit more Salvador Dali.

Are these not Art?

I had a similar discussion at our community centre about which of the various groups qualified for an "art support" grant.  The definition used was

Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

So undoubtedly whiffing is art.  We do painting and sculpture with creativity, imagination and expression ... and much appreciated just for what they are.

Yes we are artists

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The artist is obviously using Critical Theory to call into question the established narrative that 'finished' has inherent value as opposed to being an oppressive and judgemental label imposed by patriarchal western society. As a white male westerner slave of the patriarchy, it is therefore literally impossible for you to criticize this work without your unconscious prejudice revealing your underlying bigotry. You need to stop centering yourself in the discussion of value, decolonize your mind and accept that wiring and controls can have other ways of being which are equally valid.
