The LRDU's Wellesleys were fitted with longer chord Bristol Pegasus engines, and that's included in the M'box kit.

47 Squadron had the last operational Wellesleys in the RAF, and saw action over Ethiopia against the Italians in 1940-41, but switched to maritime recce flights over the Med and Red Sea until late '42.

Might have to start over again with the one I have in the stash, can't seem to find the landing gear for this one. Anyway, wondering about having bombs or depth charges, plenty of the former in the parts box but not the latter. If I get really ambitious I might scratch Yagi antennae, but it isn't a priority.

To my eye, that aircraft needs a larger engine.  What about a multi-row radial?  There must have been one or two likely types floating about that could have been used.  What about the Bristol Hercules sleeve-valve, as used on the Beaufighter?  It was available in 1939, so ... a possibility?

The Hercules was flight tested on a Wellesley.

Well, there you have it - Whiff a production run  engined with the Hercules - a high altitude reconnaissance version, perhaps?  It could be protected by Welkins.  :)

A bit like this one perhaps? Although mine's Merlin powered.

Why do all the redesign work giving a pressure cabin to  a recce Wellesley when it would be easier and cheaper to simply install the cameras in the Welkin?  Recce and fighter capability in one aircraft and risking fewer pilots.

Hey Ratty:  Yes, please do proceed, and that will make up very nicely . . . those LG legs have to be around there somewhere  ;).  I don't know how you do it, I would have dropped the thing a dozen times with those long wings  :-\ .

Kit:  Very nice on yours, but something looks "different" about it  :o  Maybe it's just the angle of the photo. . .  wait a second

Sorry, Ratty, to hijack your thread  :-\  I should send you some more Wellesley kits to revamp yours too   Come to think of it, I could rework some B-24's and B-29's as well

Cool stuff!
