Quite a reasonable amount of progress made so far today. The glazing for the camera ports was installed and masking begun on all those windows. Filler applied around the original undercarriage doors and I managed to get around to gluing not only some weight into the nose section, I also got that closed up too!

Now if I could just find the drawings of what I am building I could start work on the wing extensions  :banghead:

Drawing found and numbers crunched.

It looks as if each wing needs to be extended from the end of each lower wing part by 6.25cm! so an overall span increase of 12.5cm in 1/72 scale which looks roughly correct by the drawings I think. Obviously I am working from a set of sketches which are probably not to scale but we will see how it goes with what I have come up with.

Can a moderator move this to a more appropriate place please as the group build finished some time ago and I might restart this build.

Had to read up on this your project as you mentioned it in my Valiant tanker thread. Blimey, Alastair! You weren't joking when you talked about longer wings!

Also, I recognise most of your chores with the resin parts for the fuselage extension. In particular, the diameter fault was really annoying, but I elected to attack it from another angle, having glued the Airfix fuselage together before chopping it off, thereby being able to test fit the mock assembled plug. That helped me to avoid overcutting the plastic on the sides and also to verify a shim thickness to be put in on the upper side of the plug to correct the diameter. Nevertheless, as you can see, I managed to misalign the entire nose, having to saw all of it off once glued (epoxy, obviously  :rolleyes ) and then add a shim to correct for the sawn off length. In that process, a step occurred on the underside that I will have to PSR, eventually.

In this second shot, I try to show the longitudinal shim inserted to correct the diameter, but you can also see how close to the wing root the transverse shim ended up, and filing and sanding that to shape without totally ruining the wing root has been.. challenging..

Anyway - I'm now looking forward to cut the wings for the Tupolev pods together with you. It's still quite frightening, but I'll find courage in following your progress as well. I hope.. ;)

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Good to see a Valiant for a change.   Good book too, my favourite of the Aerofax V Bomber volumes.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
