In the mid 60's MiG pitched a transport version of the MiG-25 (essentially a business jet, but I don't think they used that term).  I happen to have a 1/72 MiG-25 in the stash so why not?  I think it would be a good propaganda victory, while the US Air Force brass would be flying around at Mach .6 in a JetStar, the upper echelon of the Soviet Air Force would be whisked away at Mach 2.5.

Here's a model MiG made for the pitch:

Unfortunately I don't have anything in the stash for the cockpit part (and to be honest I'm not sure what I'd use) so I'm going to scratch build it.  Here's the start:

this'll be fun.
Looks a bit wider than the standard MiG-25, with a side-by-side cockpit? Proportions are almost TSR-2 like...

Yep, it will have side by side seating in the cockpit.  Apparently in the cabin it was only a single isle and one seat wide.

Oh nice one.

In a way, it's a bit like the conversion of the Su-27 to make the Su-34 isn't it? You might imagine an 'executive' Su-34 with a stretched cabin and few extra seats...

What else could you convert like this? The F-14, F-15 and A-5 Vigilante all spring to mind...

A TSR2.  ;D

Who did one in BA markings at Telford the same year I had my monster 777 there? That looked really good.

In Soviet Russia, Su-34 imagine you!

That was Phil Cater (aka Rodger the Cabin Boy)

If im not mistaken wasnt there a transport version of the F-106 put forward for the USAF?
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Every time I see that photo I get excited at the idea of doing it myself. I have to admit I prefer the idea of someone else doing it, especially with that new forward fuselage. Bravo, and please keep us posted!

There was the B-58 VIP pod proposed (and and an airliner like version).  If you didn't have to pay the fuel bill, could have been a nice quick way for a few generals to get across country...

In a book on the XB-70 that I've got there's a pic of the mockup which has a small row of windows in the fuselage just aft of the cockpit.  :o

I can't remember the caption and I can't find the blasted book just now, but it sure was a really crazy idea.

There was a proposed transport version of the B-57A Canberra put forward to SAC as a bomber crew transport.  There is a picture of a model of it in the Mikesh book on the Canberra.

Uh. that's exy and something I considered to build some day, too, after I saw it in literature.
Looking forward to this, esp. curious about the potential livery. Should look really sexy in a classic Aeroflot livery?

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
