A coat of varnish may improve the contrast, if you're lucky.

However, I have seen photo's of aircraft in the SEA scheme where you can barely make out the difference between the greens & others where they're glaringly different.

Perhaps it's different batches or different aging of the paint.

While Vallejo's paint is great to work with they are IMO off with some of their shades.
I have their WW2 RAF & FAA set and more than a few of the paints are what they deem to be their "closest match".
Unfortunately that includes all three colours needed to do a post '41 temperate fighter scheme.  You need (from memory) Ocean Grey, Medium Sea Grey and Dark Green.  You get given US Grey, Base Grey and a green labelled both as a US shade and an RLM shade.  The greens not too bad but the underside grey is IMO too dark while the upper side one is IMO too blue.
You would have thought that for such often used colours they would have produced accurate paints.
Mind you, using what Vallejo list as correct without trying to correct them does result in some interestingly whiffed builds.

Hunter looks great BTW.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

I just got the Vallejo colors for a late WW2 Spitfire IX.  I didn't go with their RAF set, but just got the paints individually and got the paints they label as BS (British Standard) Dark Green and BS Med Sea Gray along with Ocean Gray.  I'd read these were pretty accurate, but I guess we'll see.  I also got some Hataka and Ammo By Mig paints but haven't tried them out yet.  I'm really liking the eye dropper bottles vs the old jars with lids approach though.
So I got that going for me...which is nice....

Yeah I agree; but make sure the nozzle is clear before you squeeze too hard (cos the paint isn't coming out) and pop the whole thing out and have to spend ages getting the paint back into the bottle...  :banghead:

Little evening update.  Got some detail painting and touching up done this afternoon.  The refueling probe is tacked on with blu tack for now.  Still not 100% sure about it... Thinking of changing the weapons fit from CAS to Wild Weasel too with Shrikes, CBUs, and some electronic gubbins under the nose.

So I got that going for me...which is nice....

If you can't decide about the weapons fit, you'll just have to build another to have one with each, now won't you?!!  ;)

I've got a few of the Hataka paint sets in the tool box and I do like them. They do different sets for brush and spray use but as I brush paint it doesn't bother me which set I get. I really do like the way they don't stick to a rigid 6 "bottles" per box, but just box the ones you need. Their Polish WWII set for instance just has 4 colours.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

That sounds like a perfect solution.  I think I'll be waiting on the Airfix 1/48 Hunter though!

With the lady friend off visiting family in Ohio for the weekend I had a nice relaxing Easter Sunday of decaling.  Time to go and enjoy the lovely spring weather with a pint by the water, but hopefully this evening weathering can begin.

As you can see from the kill marking, this is built as one of the two Hunters that scored aerial victories in Vietnam.  This particular one being an AIM-9B kill against a MiG 17.

I realize it wouldn't fit with either the CAS or Wild Weasel roles, but what about one in Silver, like the early F-100s?
With two MERs under each wing, it would look cool as a mud mover. Or maybe an MER on the inner pylon and a TER on the outer?

Oops - this could mean a third model...  ;D

I considered NMF but the fit of the Academy kit lends itself more to camo schemes.  I did a 1/72 Revell Hunter years ago in NMF as a Tennessee Air National Guard airplane during the Cuban Missile Crisis with a pair of Bullpups IIRC.   It's still on here Im sure but the pics are probably in Photobucket hell.  I'll see if I can find some tonight.
