If you had a tail sitting model of a Tracker, you just claim it was preparing for a catapult launch! ;D

There is another movie about the HMCS Magnificent with some older, but equally beautiful planes as well:

Were the Banshees the last RCN jets? I'm vainly trying t recall anything newer.

Yeap they were the only ones, they went from Sea Fury to Banshee and then in the 60s went to the dedicated ASW airwing with the Trackers and Sea Kings.  The Brazilian Navy operated their light fleet carrier in the same configuration where as The RAN had a similar airwing except they also included some A4 Skyhawks for Air Defence and strike roles as did Argentina. The Indians had Sea Hawks and Alize.

Hmmm, I was thinking of an RCN Demon or Cutlass. Either would look good carrying the Maple Leafs.  ;D

Or even a Crusader?

Maybe a Sea Vixen and a Scimitar as well.

I guess the "hottest" fighter to operate aboard any of the Colosus class carriers would be the Super Entendard aboard the 25 de Mayo. Catapults too short and not enough oomph to get other fighters to flying speed, and the arresting gear too weak for hotter, heavier fighters. I would say the Crusader, Sea Vixen, Denom, Cutlass etc would be non starters. A-4 and SuE were pushing things already.  I think an Essex class, or Foch would have been better to keep Canada and Australia in the the jet business for longer.

All true, but in WhiffWorld the catapults were stronger, as were the wires.  ;D

And who's to say the RCN DIDN'T have an Essex, perhaps called HMCS Bonaventure II?

Agree! That was what I was getting at. Great WHIF potential if Canada, Australia, the Dutch etc has stayed in the carrier game for another generation!  Angled deck Essex's (Essexi ?😀) with a variety of air wings could provide us with lots of fodder!
