Fairey Gannet ASS1, Z Flight, 7 Squadron, Royal Scots Navy 1968

My go at the GB, My usual time-line as seen elsewhere.

In this case a Gannet of Z flight 7 Sqdn RSN, based at RSAF Sumburgh, Shetland.
I'll fill in the full back story more later but with over 3,000 islands the Scots have a few fixed aircraft carriers to call upon (in the real-world, over 60% of UK waters are actually in the Scottish Economic zone).
Maintaining Naval control over Maritime Patrol keeps the RSN in the fixed-wing business following WW2.

As for the model? Revell Kit bought on fleabay, found to be incomplete - no cockpit - hence the Eduard set and some plasticard......
Very oddly it came with a bonus sprue of a Lancaster Fuselage, I have decided that this will NOT play a part in the final build!

No final paint decided upon yet, Norwegian Atlantique or US Navy grey/white? It'll be a surprise to me as much to you!

Love the idea of the Gannett in USN White/Gray, but for the operating environment something darker seems more appropriate.

Yeah, that's my dilemma!
Anyway, it's becomimg a nightmare, who ever had it before obviously began the kit, all the cockpit floor, bomb bay interior, as well as the cockpit parts are missing. So that includes the wing bracing. More work than planned!

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 idiot! Me, mean. It's taken weeks to sort out an interior and to effectively fabricate the parts missing. I closed the fuselage up last night and teased, this morning, that I haven't put in the nose weight! 😬

So the hook is going to be extended...... despite the aircraft being land based....

Sumburgh isn't a huge runway........and you can operate it off the airstrip on Fair Isle if it's hooked.

OK, so due to work and the Gannet from fleabay missing an entire interior (including wing bracing, engine exhausts, bomb bay and cockpit) which is actually the structural skeleton for the whole damn thing, I have somewhat overshot the deadline........ If this should be put elsewhere Mods, please do so.

Anyway, A Fairey Gannet ASS1 of Z (Zetland) Flight, No 7 Squadron Royals Scots Navy. Shortly after Exercise Northern Wedding in 1975, where the Sumburgh (Shetland)-based flight hosted US Navy squadron VS-29 ashore from USS Enterprise. So delighted were the US Crews by the hospitality of some real Vikings, they allowed Z flight to use their own Viking ship insignia on their tails. Scots Navy doctrine follows a variation on the Swedis dispersed operations, particularly for Maritime Operations.

Revel Kit (I may try the Trumpeter one next) brush painted (I am now really going to have to get an airbrush) and Humbrol Enamels (maybe never again, except the 20 year old ones I still have an which are fine).

This truly was a nightmare and I'm glad it's over! I had better results from Novo ones in the '70s and '80s!.

Looks great!  Like the scheme very much.

Air brushing is a good skill to learn.  It can make for some great models.  Also consider spray paint cans.  I uses them often, and much less clean up and fuss than an airbrush.  I have found that cheap hardware store variety does just fine, and for such colors as your Gannet you could easily find close enough colors. 

I brush, use spray cans and airbrush.  I find myself increasingly using spray cans for large objects and brushes only for small detail.

Thanks, I use Tamiya rattle cans on my RC model ships, I will move to acrylics too, I think.
