BAe Nimrod reworked

In the book "Nimrod's Genesis" by Chris Gibson on page 189, he writes about a proposal to re-enjoying the Nimrod by removing the Spey engines and modifying the wing to take four RB.410 turbofans fitted on underwing pylons.
Ground clearance would be a problem but a solution was to lengthen the undercarriage legs.
I have a pair of 1/72 vacform VC 10 wings which I could use along with the engines from the Heller Boeing E-3A/C AWACS.
Sourcing a suitable undercarriage might prove a bit tricky but I could display the model with the gear up on a stand.
Further modifications could transform this build into a platform for the JSTARS/ASTOR  Sentinel.

The new engines could be fitted over the wings, then the existing landing gear can be used

They'd have limited options where to put the inner engines as the Nimrod gear retracts outwards, and longer legs would have used up more space in the wings.

You're forgetting that the Speys wound no longer be in the wing route so plenty of space to put new longer landing gear in a newly designed inner wing !

You're forgetting that the Speys wound no longer be in the wing route so plenty of space to put new longer landing gear in a newly designed inner wing !

No I'm not, but that'd mean a whole new wing design from root outwards.

They might as well have bought 737s.....Oh, they just did, sorry.

Well the two Airfix kits the Avro Vulcan and BAe Nimrod are compatible. The Vulcan wing fits the Nimrod fuselage without too many problems.
I have tried fitting the wings from the Revell/Matchbox HP Victor. This requires a couple of rods /stretchers to reinforce the join to the fuselage.
The wings from the Mach2 Valiant also fit the Nimrod. You could try using the AlleyCat improvement sets on the wheel wells.
The Nimrod wings do fit the fuselage of the Mach2 Valiant, it's a shame that the Mach2 kit needs a lot of work as the two halves are never the same size.
I haven't tried fitting the Nimrod wings to the Vulcan, I'll find out next week if they do.
