Conceived as a Seversky layed-out fighter with inline Merlin engine it slightly resembled the Hurricane. During operational tests there were severe centre of gravity problems and the availability of better fighters prevented it from being a success. Off 20 produced aircraft 8 were wrecked due to CG issues, two were kept in the UK for test & trial duties. The rest was sent to Singapore in January 1942 for fighter assistance were all were overrun while being re assembled and didn't see any action.

Livery: RAF 453 squadron based in Singapore, February 1942

Parts used: Prop & front fuselage of a airfix defiant. Tail, tailplanes and wing Polair PZL P-50 Jastrab. Still needs a radiomast and wire.

REID & SIGRIST ???  Where did you get that name? It's a firm that used to build Leica copies in the fifties, later became part of the Decca concern.

BTW: interesting aircraft you built.  :thumbsup:

NOTE: I recognised the name because I have just rekindled my interest in old rangefinder cameras collecting... ;D
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

I've got a book dating 1948 about aircraft. In it is a picture and description of the Reid & Sigrist Desford. I didn't know the brand and got interested, googled and found out they also produced an earlier model, the snargasher.  I think it's a cute model ( the snargasher), the desford has rather pleasing lines. When combining parts for this contraption, I remembered the brand of Reid & Sigrist and found the portly, cute lines suitable with the brand....

Me thinks Reid & Sigrist should have made more aircraft of the most weird and wonderful models...

Thanks for the info. I had no idea Reid & Sigrist had really built aircraft. Found a well-filled Wiki page. And Snargasher is an interesting name!  ;D

A very pleasing and interesting design.

I would suspect overheating would be a problem, with no radiator fitted though, lol

Evaporative cooling? It was all the rage in the 30s.  ;D

Looks very much the 'cheap and quick' fighter, on the lines of the Miles M.20.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I remember Reid cameras in my first job (repairing cameras). Who knew they made aircraft?

Thanks Gentlemen,

Now about the cooling, l completly forgot to include a radiator, planned a evaporation or boil-off cooling system. Coolant tank in the rear should provide enough coolant as the range is limited anyway (as usual for british aircraft) and when the tank gets more empty should give plenty CG issue's....all jolly marvelous...

Have to include coolant fillet hatch, boil-off exhaust and weathering....check!
