So for my birthday my son and I did a five day visit to Berlin-Salzburg-Munich - the plan being to see as many aircraft as possible!  ;D

So after a quick visit to Tempelhof, my son did an open-top bus tour, whilst I headed off to Gatow  ;D

It is a wonderful mixture of aircraft - the ones outside have suffered from the sun a little

more to follow if you're interested  ;D

A wonderful place, with a weird mixture of RAF and Luftwaffe style buildings as well.

Where else could you see a Canberra and an IL-28 parked next to each other?   ;D

Off for a long weekend to help my son and daughter-in-law move house now, so more in a few days time, but I shall leave you with....Gina! , soon to appearing on a website near you as the Fiat Finch FGA.Mk.1  ;D

So to continue...

Gatow was to put it mildly ....amazing ;D        for a 'Cold War Kid' it definitely hits the spot....FOUR MIGs anyone?

and a tale of tails?

and then, Beyond the Beagle (sounds like a good film title!  ;D) there was a group of trainer / operational conversion aircraft. Again, to agree with what Kit said, the mix is somewhat eclectic  ;)

Interesting, that Harrier seems to be a Kestrel.   Ex-BDR airframe?
"Inconceivable!"

I don't think so.

Kestrels didn't have the intake blow-in doors that that pic shows, and they only had one set of underwing pylons. The Luftwaffe Kestrels all went to the USA after the Tri-Partite Squadron disbanded too.

It doesn't have the 'eyelid' nose sensor either.

I've just checked on the actual aircraft serial - and it is (and I know this is pedantically splitting hairs!) actually one of the six pre-production P.1127 (RAF) aircraft, so it is a Harrier..but not quite! From what little I skim read only the production aircraft were 'actually' called Harriers. I presume (and I'm making this up as I go along!  ;D) it didn't possibly ever serve with the RAF and has only been painted up to represent a 4 Squadron machine?

I was there in 2013 and didn't spot that the Harrier might have been a P.1127 or even a Kestrel. I did see the early shape and the sign next to it says BAe (HS) Harrier GR Mk.1 which was enough for me. Unfortunately that's the large print part I can make on the photo, the rest is blurred.
It would make for an interesting piece in an evolution of Harrier development.

Looking through my photos Gatow also had an early Tornado MRCA, prototype P-01. Painted overall white with red spine. This may have been moved recently.
