That's pretty close to the colour of the Tamiya primer I tried it with.

Oh, its supposed to be PALE pink is it?

Hmmmm.

To be honest it's a case of experimenting until you get a shade that suits the particular brand/colour of yellow you are using, and then jotting down the ratios of white/red down so you don't forget. Guess who's forgot to do that a number of times.

I started with Vallejo pink which is way,way too pink and just added a copious amount of their white until I got something that worked for me. I think the colour/shade of the primer and/or the colour and "shininess" of the underlying plastic can effect it as well.

I'm thinking of combining all of this into my dissertation for my Open University Chemistry Degree

The yellow's gone on quite nicely over the pink undercoat.

It's a tad thick, but the real stuff was anyway, and with the NMF all over the rest of the airframe it should look OK. I've just finished detail painting the cockpit (read going all over it with a splatter brush and some matt aluminium...) and two parts of the canopy are now glued in place and drying.

This model's fated............. :(

Tamiya tape turns out to be almost EXACTLY the same shade as RAF Trainer Yellow, so when I laboriously masked up the yellow wing and tail areas I managed to miss a couple of bits.  :banghead:

The result is that one of the small yellow areas on the booms has a lovely silver stripe right down the middle of it, and the underside yellow stripe on one wing has a LARGE chunk of silver sprayed over it too! Grrrrrrr.................

I suspect the yellow paint won't cover the silver too well so I'll have to do some precision painting with the pink undercoat.

Oh well, it's not as if I've anything else to do, only the Avro Leeds, the Defiant Mk IV and the PR19 prototype, sigh..................

Use an old car modellers trick - put a transfer over it...

Good idea that, thanks.

I may give it a go if I can match the colour.

I actually meant like a roundel or a stencil or serial number (or some flames).  But a plain coloured transfer could also work.

I rather like the idea of a 'flamed' Venom trainer.  ;D ;)

I'm not sure the Squadron Commander would approve though.

That's why I got a couple of sheets of Xtradecal solid colour sheets

I may try and print some matching bits. I've got lots of decals to print off anyway, I may as well use the spare parts of the sheet with something worthwhile.

Even if the colour isn't an exact match is makes a suitable surface for easier paint touch ups.
